This little tree is barely 5 ft. tall and it has 2 little peaches. Is that normal for such a young tree? I chose the shortest one @ the store because it had to ride home in a Suburban.

Thank you! I'm more used to waiting for years for (so many) plants to produce. I know nothing about peach trees except that I like peaches.

Congrats on your peach baby! Smiling I planted a peach tree this year that's still only about 3 ft tall and I'm also seeing tiny babies. They're about the size of lima beans and green still, but I was very surprised to see them already!

HI & welcome! Thanks for your note. That's so fun! My husband ate that peach last weekend and said it was great. Since he was mowing I say he earned it.

@purpleinopp, are you spraying your tree with anything? I heard that peach trees can be vulnerable to pests and funguses and need some kind of spray and maintenance. I looked some stuff up online but seems like lots of chemicals, which I'm a little wary of using. Would love to know of any suggestions you might have for keeping peach tree healthy and strong!

Hi & welcome, Adrienne! I hope this tree will be OK without that stuff. If it can't be healthy naturally, we'll replace it with something else.

Somebody should have that type of information if you want it, but it's just not me.

Fair enough! I think I'm in your camp. I don't want to start introducing chemicals! Maybe I'll do some research on herbs or other plants that keep pests away to plant around it....

That's a great idea! Please share if you find some helpful info. : + )

There are times when chemicals have their place, like the oak tree that nobody noticed growing up the middle of a Gardenia in my front yard until it got taller than the Gardenia, which is over 7 ft. tall. There's no way to dig the oak out without digging up the Gardenia too and untangling all of the roots. I'm hoping brush killer painted onto the fresh cut of the oak tree trunk will kill it. I did buy some stuff to do that but it's the first time in over 20 years that I've bought a package of anything but fertilizer. The size of the package I had to buy was crazy!! Enough to kill everything growing on our property, not counting the big trees.

It'll work if the cut was really fresh and you painted it around the junction of the bark.

Thank you! That's what I've read around here before and why I bought "the stuff." I haven't cut it yet because I wasn't ready to open the package in that much wind. If it keeps trying to grow after the fresh-cut-stump treatment, I could paint the leaves, then cut it a few days later & paint the stump again, then repeat as necessary until it peters out. I'm imagining an oak that has gotten to this size is going to be vigorous as heck. It's grown about 3 feet above the Gardenia since I noticed it barely sticking up from the top. It took me several trips to a store to get up the nerve to actually look at the packages and try to pick one.

Might it be more powerful to lean it over and paint many leaves, then cut & paint stump a few days later? Or I could lean the tip into a jar of 'cide. The last time I did that with a vine, it worked. (No, I have no small children or pets who would get into it, yes I would cover it with plastic to keep rain & wildlife out.)

When I'm @ home and have time to put more info about the specific product sometime this weekend, I would very much appreciate any input on employing it most effectively, in the smallest worthwhile quantity. : + )

I would just go with painting the stump. I don't know what herbicide you are using, but I have killed 12" diameter hackberries and even larger huisache with Remedy using that technique. Spraying risks damaging other vegetation.

While watering peach baby yesterday, I found a stupid hole in the trunk around 12" up from the ground.

But it was calm and I hope I killed some unwanted things that had sprouted where they could not be dug by cutting them off and painting 'cide on the cut. Luckily I have a supply of little paintbrushes that have collected around the house over the years because I dropped two into the 'cide, so far.

Peach baby is still alive and made a decent crop of blooms for its size. It looks like there are 30-40 little peaches starting to form.
