I cut this stem about 5 weeks ago and stuck it in water to root as a gift.
Thumb of 2021-05-22/purpleinopp/907f56

The roots are starting well.
Thumb of 2021-05-22/purpleinopp/3cb84f

While watering today, I noticed this where the stem had been cut.

Removed the top 2 leaves to see more clearly.

There are 2 more stems forming near the bottom of this stem. I noticed a 3rd one looking at the below pic last night, and found a 4th one today.

You've got the magic touch.. but we already knew that lol.

I really like this plant and now have two big ones. I don't cut them off very often and have only have 1 new bud when I've done so.
I value them for looking good, long graceful leaves in any light, staying nice and narrow while growing bigger, mine add new stems from the root system that are really sturdy even in low-medium light.

I did cut a stem recently and will try to check that one. The plant had one stem nearly five feet tall with the rest of them about 2 feet so it was odd. Still full of leaves all the way up- kind of hated to cut it but it should be rooting for someone right now.
Plant it and they will come.

Thank you, Sally! I don't take any credit beyond trying to offer appreciated amounts of water & light. Then I observe to see what happens. I did get the fertilizer out last month for the first time since I think 2018 and I think all of the plants got at least 1 fertilized watering, that could be a factor. I believe this could happen on anyone's plant. I'll add more pics soon when there is more to see.

I fertilize rarely too but have started being more aware, especially the challenging items like epiphyllum that I want to really perform.. so the other plants might get more now too.
Plant it and they will come.

I know that Epi feeling! I just couldn't devote so much space to that anymore just to hopefully one day see/sniff a single flower. I kept 3 "sections" and composted the rest. I'm not letting it get any bigger. It has another year, maybe 2, to bloom and if not, off to the compost it goes. At this point, it would have been easier to drive to someone's house in FL, get a good look & sniff & be done with it. LOL! I'm sorry, I've lost that lovin' feeling for just the plain green foliage that never blooms.

Ha ha, so true, I understand ,Tiffany. I had a red Epi and a pink one, gave up the red, and refused to take a ric rac- unusual but just do not have room for many huge rangy hanging plants. It's pic like these that make me hang on to the pink one
https://cactiguide.com/cactus/...

And- I have several Queens Tears.. Billbergia nutans.. having watched them bloom a few times, I'm over the novelty, and just keep them because frogs seem to like going in the cups of the leaves. I should probably stick some in my trees for the summer Smiling But I digress...
Plant it and they will come.

Tiffany, that Lucky Bamboo is looking good!! I have two that need cutting back and seeing your photos makes me think I really should do it! One has been growing in a jar of water on my screened porch for a few years and the other is potted but in such a dark corner that it's etiolated and lanky from lack of sufficient light. *Blush*

I don't grow orchid cactus anymore. I lost a few to freezes when we lived farther north in the state and I had a really beautiful Ric Rac a/k/a Zig-Zag Cactus (Selenicereus anthonyanus) for about 18 years and it was so beautiful. When we retired and moved, I had a truckload of plants that the guys were unloading and I told them to place them anywhere in the shade. The Ric Rac cactus was placed on a side of the house behind some shrubbery where I didn't find it until months later and it was dead. Crying I miss that plant but refuse to buy another because I'm old now and it took years for that one to begin blooming. I rarely see them for sale anyway and when I do, they are usually just a few small cuttings stuck in a pot. By the time one got to blooming size, I wouldn't likely remember what it was. Rolling on the floor laughing

Thanks, I think so too!

I've admired your pics of that many times over the yrs. Wish I could add a new "like" each time! : + ) It is sad when a plant gets unexpectedly culled from the collection, I know the feeling about not wanting to replace it. Can't have 'em all!

I have done this with various plants. I can only cope with so many big plants, but I do hate the idea of 'losing' most plants altogether. SO I make a small one out of a big one. And can't really ever see buying any big plant because starting with small is cheaper Smiling

New big plants kind of intimidate me because they are already set in their ways, like adopting an adult vs. a small child, and it takes a lot more thought to work them into the existing crowd. Watching the little ones grow up is so fun.

When it was in the middle of this past terribly dreary 'Pandemic Winter', I yearned for something fresh and green in my office to give me a sense of hope, life, and Spring. I got a rather full two foot wide bushy Monstera Deliciosa. It definitely lifted my spirits and felt all jungle-y and fresh. Angel But I had no idea that it would grow quite so fast. That was only five months ago and pretty soon I'll have to start lopping off branches to give to friends. There are worse problems to have. nodding

No doubt! It is fun to give & trade extra plants!

There are 5 new branches coming out of this trunk. 2 at the top, 1 near the middle, and 2 near the base.

A couple of update pics. I'm about to trim all of the leaves off of the main stem so I can see better what is going on. At first, the new growths were about the same size, but by now, some seem to have taken the lead and are growing much faster than a couple of the others.

This is the top:
Thumb of 2021-08-04/purpleinopp/b767c8

Toward the bottom:
Thumb of 2021-08-04/purpleinopp/d38183

There's a lot going on here, hard to hold enough foliage back to see the subject stem well.
