Hello, I began gardening (lots of trial and error) with sempervivum a little over a year ago after learning there's way more than just "the green" or "webbed" one out there. I have found this site very helpful (for semps and others). I'm also currently enjoying Kevin Vaughn's book (halfway through it; also very helpful). I'm familiar with the Chick Charms series (double names and all) and learned a few days ago there's a newer series called Supersemp with 'Onyx', 'Jade', 'Emerald', 'Ruby', 'Amethyst', and 'Rose Quartz'. Just now, I learned a new series called Colorockz is out there, with 'Coral Red' and 'Arctic White'. I couldn't find much about them on this site (some aren't even listed). My question is, do you know if the semps of these new series also have double names? Thanks!

Hi Nelli. Welcome to the Sempervivum forum at NGA. Glad you found your way here.

It seems that we have more of these companies renaming semps. It becomes very confusing. It seems Colorockz is a registered marketing name. Like Chick Charms. Looking at the semps that Quality Cuttings offers, some show an original name and other don't. Some don't look correct
https://qualitycuttings.com/pa...

I'll see what I can find out.
I did find this about the red one:

Thank you for the information. The double name is unfortunate for a newbie like myself. I'll try to periodically web search them for more info. It will not deter me from adding more semps; lack of space might!
Lynn, the second link will not open for some reason. Could be because I'm trying through my phone???

Nelli,

Thanks for the kind words on my book.

My best advice is that you purchase plants from the dealers recommended on this list as they are scrupulous about names and also produce wonderful plants. You won't have to worry about getting a duplicate plant from them. You should know that some of the Chick Charms plants such as Gold Nugget are novel cultivars.

Kevin,
Thanks for the advice. I really am enjoying your book and of course it's making my plant list longer and longer, much to my husband's dismay. But so are the websites this forum (and your book) mention. In fact, I just received a box from the Perennial Obsessions Nursery and will be opening after typing this (very exciting). I recently ordered your 'Pink Lotus' and 'Black Lotus' semps (from MCG) and I'm cautiously watching them to ensure they settle into their new home. Fingers crossed! You've made so many wonderful semps. Thank you. I read you also hybridize other plants. Amazing! Thanks again.

And thank you to all. This site really has been helpful with plant information and its thread discussions.

Haha, with the forum here, your plant list "wants" will skyrocket exponentially! EEk!

These are great semps. I have 'Coral Red', 'Arctic White' & 'Ruby Lime'. All have been great plants and heavy chick producers for me. I highly recommend them!

As for SuperSemps, all of them are new hybrids except 'Onyx' Onyx is Leopold. 'Amethyst' has been removed from the series and is now sold under the name 'Lavendar Ice'. 'Rose Quartz' was renamed 'Fire Quartz' as part of the patent process. They also have an 'Amber' & 'Jasper' that are currently in trials.

Here you go Nathaniel. Is this suppose to have the Colorockz added? I don't see that on the link you provided. Or is the patent pending? Or this one is just not in the series Colorockz?

@valleylynn, based on Jef's post in a different thread, I would assume it is part of the Colorockz series. The Colorockz facebook page also lists it as one of the series. https://www.facebook.com/color...

I purchased two of each of the Coral Red and the Arctic White mid August last year. While both varieties survived the winter, unfortunately one of each did die. One set was planted together, along with some other varieties, with a few rossette casualties. The other two were in separate locations; the Arctic White died completely (in a terracotta pot of it's own) and about 85% of the Coral Red (in a thicker plastic pot). But to be fair, a couple varieties that lived through the winter before did not make it through this winter. I think we had a lot more freezing rain this winter. The ones that made it are producing babies already, so that's good news. I did see the Ruby Lime one for sale the end of last year (I believe) and hoped to purchase it, but haven't yet. Glad to hear they are new names.
