Why is this site so slow? Where did the site forum go? Oh well. It was a good run. Have a lovely life. Aargh, now I can't even post this.

Is it just NGA or everything? Maybe one of the fires has interfered with your communications lines? We are having that problem - the Dixie fire has taken out internet and phone service for most of Eastern California and part of Northern Nevada at one time or other this last month. It lasts for a few days then fixes itself. The carriers aren't willing to admit to anything but our Community College spilled the beans (as they were affected and figured it out).

No problems with the site, probably on your end Deb.

Working fine for me too - and the "Site Talk" forum is right where it should be. Hope to see you back with us, Deb! Crossing Fingers!

All my other programs run just fine. For whatever reason, this site is incredibly slow for me. Like, click on my plant inventory, leave the room for 5 minutes, and hope my list loads by the time I return. Kind of doesn't work well for me anymore. So pretty much self limiting. As I said, though, it was a good run and I'll likely continue poking around, mostly using the database and my personal lists when I have the patience for long delays. I suppose I should figure out if I can print my list, anyone know that? Seems like a waste of paper but just today I was trying to figure out what chokecherry I have, with no particular luck.

You can print your plant list or download it as a CSV (which can be opened in Excel or other spreadsheet software):

Thumb of 2021-09-02/Australis/b29991

If you open your plant list, there should be a printer icon and a page icon in the right-hand box (under the "Add a plant to your list" button). The printer icon will open your plant list in a printer-friendly view (then you just need to select the print option from your browser's menu). The page icon will trigger the download of a CSV file containing your plant list.

Deb, try clearing your cache in your browser, and if you are using Windows, go to start, accessories, system tools, disk cleanup. Let it remove temporary and archived error reports. You can also do a defragmentation, also in system tools. Either or both of these could help if they are not things you have done recently.

Tiffany, thanks I will try those things. I opened the program this morning still having extremely long wait times to load, to change screens, to do anything. Drives me nuts. My internet connection can be wonky at times (I'm in a rural area) but this is the only program that consistently does not work well for me. I've really missed using the database and updating my plant list...

I have an older computer which can no longer be updated, and I find that as certain sites make improvements my computer can't keep up and either won't open stuffย or does so very slowly. I also have minimal internet service so I never know which to blame. I hope you find a solution, I'd hate to lose your contributions.

Deb, I had a similar problem with my old laptop (Win 7). I finally got fed up and bought another computer (refurbished, for about $200). End of problem. But do try Tiffany's suggestions. Those made a difference on my husband's old laptop.

Good to hear from you, Deb! You could also take a look at your preferences on this site inside your profile. ...maybe you are "watching" a really high number of discussions? You can choose to turn off ads, signatures, avatars, emoticons, etc... You may find something in there that doesn't agree with your computer/browser.
