11/21/2022 my rooted "Mrs Rose" cutting:


I found this from an old thread. I followed this but I used sand and perlite and some of my cuttings have rooted:



Updated tips:
1) remove leaves except top 2 and let cuttings dry for 2 to 3 days
2) place cuttings in water until signs of roots emerge (optional, you can skip to 3)
3) place cuttings in moist (but not too wet or soggy) well draining potting mix
4) do not water until leaves start to grow or roots are visible if rooting in clear plastic.

It depends Gigi, for some this may work. Like the way they have shown watering doens't work for me in the case of cuttings .
I have followed one channel and the guy really explains well.
He says -
1) Take a cutting which is 8-10 inch long .
2) Apply fungicide to the cut portion and let it dry for 24 hours ( I keep for 2 days )
3) Remove all the leaves except couple of young baby new leaves to let it be in growth mode otherwise cutting will take long time to grow as it has to grow leaves and roots both. If we don't remove the leaves , they will keep on perspiring moisture and the cutting may die because of dehydration.
4) He has suggested to use media mixture of river sand , garden soil (less), compost, coco peat . But I since I am not comfortable with coco peat this time I used coarse sand with little garden soil .
The previous cuttings which I have posted which rooted successfully I had used only coarse sand .
5) He says don't push the cutting in the media as sometimes there might be some small stone and cutting might get hurt with the pressure.Just a make a hole with your finger and place the cutting.
6) media should be kept moist not soggy. As it doesn't need much water. Before placing cutting, I sprinkled some water and moistened the media. No need to water after placing the cutting. Only moisten the media if it appears to be dry.
7) Keep it in shade (I keep indoors) for 2-3 days and then it can be placed outdoors.

This is how i rooted them. This time I have left couple of leaves. Last time I didn't so it is taking a lot of time to grow leaves.

Yes, I need as much info like the one you posted. I am having trouble rooting cuttings. They rot when I use soil.

So far, this is the first time I am starting to see a little progress with my cuttings adeniums are harder to root from cuttings than plumerias because they rot fast. I can't take a victory lap yet though.

I will try the above on my next batch of cuttings. Of course it always depend on the age of the cuttings and the growing conditions. I have a lot of friends that are more into flowers than caudex. So I am hoping I can grow more cuttings to share blooming adeniums

I am too learning as mine also rotted earlier like I pushed them in a big pot with only soil. It was struggling for some time, came up with couple of branches but didn't make it. I too love flowers. I am also trying to root more cuttings. Hopefully they may .
Congrats for your progress on cuttings.

I just stick and push all the fresh cuttings into my " Adenium graveyard" without doing anything, roughly 70% will die and 30% will root. I believe the followings will improve the rooting rate:
- let them dry for a couple of days before planting them
- make a hole instead of push the stem into the soil
- cut majority of the leaves , only keep 3 or 4 leaves
- no water in the first 1 week, but make sure that the soil has some moisture
- soil without compost is better, this to prevent the micro organism to compost the stem, thinking that it is a dried leaves

@Kaktus I copied the link of your post here. It is easier for me to find them when I start to do the air layering. Great job!

I gave you the real acorns under the chat . I was out taking a look, which ones will qualify for air layering.

Did you just use a regular potting soil?

Winter is coming, I think its better if you do the air layering at spring

on the potting soil, I prefer something light and can hold a lot of water, I use cocopeat + charcoal husk for this. But basically any media will do, if you want to use garden soil, make sure there are no parasite in it. For media that is heavy, arrange some stick to support the media, the stem of the adeniums may not be able to support the weight.

Sadly I think I must have overwatered my cuttings again or there was too much moisture in the mini greenhouse. 3 are rotted with 2 more remaining.

I am thinking more and more about air layering but most of my tall or long branches are still green. So next spring will be the best time to try.

yes, we are now starting to feel cooler breeze and shorter daytime.

So far I have success rate something like 30% for stem cutting and 100% for air layering, air layering will have shorter time to root also. But the difference will be on the mother plant, the mother plant will be 2 months behind for growing new branches

Maybe I will air layering one branch at a time. This way the mother plant can continue to grow flowers.

Update of 2 month old cutting. Looks like it's doing well.

I rooted four.
This one is successful.

Then one broken branch which I rooted has not shown any new growth but neither rotting , standing tall. I rooted it on 10 sept.

I rooted the suckers , still no growth neither mushy.

Grafted branch rotted after rooting. Have cut the rotten part and rooted again. But not sure it will go through as it has become very tiny.

I have A big one that has successfully rooted, from my neighbor's desert rose. The pencil size are not doing well.
