Half moon or some times called "flag" some times appear on many variegated plants. Mostly on one or few leaves, although few times it could stay awhile.

Beautiful set @gina1960 🤩, The half moon Monstera is phenomenal. It is a wonderful feeling watching them all especially at the stage they are pure unblemished.
What is the last one?. is that P. 'Jose Buono' or P. White Wizzard, or other?

Its a White Wizard. I have had some half moon Jose B in the past, I don't think I have any currently. The variegated Peace Lilies (Domino) throw half moon and all white leaves all the time

You have such a huge amount of stuff we cannot get here. Unless someone decides to import it. And, if it's just one guy importing, its a single vendor market and they charge HUGE prices. There are no longer any big corporations or companies importing these plants to the US plant trade from anywhere. Only the single individual person, who then tries to rape buyers with huge prices for rare plants. And sadly, people BUY them. They shouldn't bite. They should WAIT til many people import and the prices drop. But the people here who are the new generation of 'collectors' (read...import, chop, resell to try and profit) only want to make a buck so they will spend a huge amount for a plant with hopes of getting that investment back when they chop up a totally nice beautiful plant

Ya, The same situation also happens here, I mostly trade plants, since many seller seems try to kill me with astronomical price.
There are some seller importing plants from abroad here too, but I try my best not to buy, simply I can't afford them.
I'd rather enjoy people's plant through pictures, and try to propagate mine. When I got some extras, trade will be my choice

There are a few unscrupulous people here (I know them from Facebook pages) who are doing something called 'Reverse Importing'. They will but all of a single plant someone in, say your country of Indonesia, has, to try to in effect create a vacuum for that plant. Then they will chop them up and propagate them here and RESELL THEM BACK to Indonesians at a higher price. I have a cool half moon, need to go get a photo, its not what you would expect

I am wondering when the inflated prices started? Was this something related to people being bored during the pandemic or was it prior to 2020? My favorite nursery has their pricey aroids and anything variegated locked up in cages to keep people from pinching a cutting, it is so sad to see.

Gina, that reverse importing is unbelievable, but horibly that is so true. This kind of market manipulation is happening at small scale every so often too, but mostly on other commodity, it happens almost every year. Some horrible people will buy major commodity (food, oil, gas, etc) prior big holliday causing a vacuum suply effect, and when the demand get high, they flood the market, with super price. It is depressing that this also happens in plants world.

Alice, in my area, the drasticaly price turning, and the booming of plant collecting trend was strated around march 2020, soon after the pandemic. So I believes this is due to people get so depressed by lock down and social distancing
The other phenomena been depressing is plant stealing from home collection, this force us to cage our plants, it happens in the past but increasing as the price climbing.
This is why I feel unsettle accepting people visiting my "green house"
Yesterday few people come by, and one of my plant dissapeared
It is so coincindential that it was a half moon foliage
a Schismattoglottis sp from Borneo
Unfortunately that is the only plant ever been found by my friend in Borneo. There is no other, and I lost it before I had a chance to propagate

Pretty bad when you can't even allow visitors to your personal garden. I know there has been problems in nursery greenhouses and the botanical gardens here with plant thieves, and even some are stealing from homeowner's landscapes during the night. I had someone steal plants out of my cart a few years ago at a plant sale, when my back was turned, and this was all before the pandemic.

I still see some eye rolling prices at the nurseries here, however I don't see them being bought up like they were before, so fingers crossed, people are wising up and not paying ridiculous prices. Let's only hope, because I sure want a Pink Princess at the 2016 prices Hilarious! .

I ***never***allow strangers into my greenhouse or even my yard. If I have not known you personally for years, you don;t come over. I hosted plant trades at my house in the mid-2000's when people were more 'civilized', now it sounds paranoid, but with all the thievery, no one gets to take a tour, although people ask a lot.

This is my most unusual half moon variegated plant. This is a variegated crinum lily. Its one of perhaps 6 plants that I have growing in my yard, all propagations from one single mother plant (that does NOT look like this). The half moon pattern of this plant is genetically fixed. EVERY leaf comes out half moon. Even if we get a freeze severe enough that it loses its leaves, when they grow back out, they are ALL half moon. This is the only pup so far I have gotten that has this degree of variegation, or this pattern.

Usually, they all look like this.....maybe albo-marginated, with a little sectional variegation but mostly pinstripes. This is what the mother looks like as well
