Hi everyone!

I suspect there is an easy answer that I just can't find. I like to send thread links to people sometimes, but they all end with /#new_post. This causes anyone who clicks it to be sent to the last post in the thread.

How can I edit that so that they'll be sent to the first post in the thread?

Thanks in advance. Lovey dubby

Hey Joanna!

It would appear you have the "automatically jump to the first unread post in threads" setting as "yes." You can turn that off temporarily, and then send the links so that people won't be put at the end of the thread.

You can access that setting in the "site preferences" area in your profile.

No thank you. I'm sure there's a way to edit the link that would be a lot easier. But thanks anyway.

You could click on "Back to the top" (below the last post on a page) before you copy the URL address. The link will then say "#top." Actually, I don't think you have to do even that. The #new_post would take the other person to the first unread post, and if the person had never read the thread, that would be at the top.

Zuzu, thank you! Both of those make perfect sense! And also, I can just replace #new_post with #top in the link!

Perfect, thank you! Thank You! Thank You! Thank You! Lovey dubby

Another option is to remove the #new_post altogether.

Another option also is to go to the forum (where the list of threads is) and copy and paste the URL from there. That would make a URL that looks like garden.org/thread/go/157819/ which will then honor the user's own preferences (meaning if they have auto skip to new, it'll do that for them when they hit the link).

Thank you Dave! It's exactly what I was looking for!

And thank you again for all you do. Lovey dubby
