We've had the same photo uploading concept here since I initially created this site back in 2011. You click to upload a photo and it opens a file dialog box and you find and choose the image and it uploads it.

I've recently worked to rewrite how we post photos, and I have finished a pretty nice little beta version of it. I will implement it into the plants database first and let it get used there for a while, and after that I will work to add it to the forums, tree-mails and everywhere else we have photo uploads.

It acts the same way, in that it has a button you can click to open the file dialog. BUT it also has a drag and drop function, where you can drag the image from your desktop into the box and it'll upload it that way. Also, you can copy the image and paste it right into the page (using Ctrl-V) and it'll upload that way. It also has a nice progress bar so you can now watch its progress all the way to 100%.

I made a quick youtube video demonstrating how it works: https://www.youtube.com/watch?...

This code is finished but in case it has problems, I don't want to upload it right as I'm leaving my desk for the evening, so I'll upload it tomorrow morning and we'll see how it goes!

I don't think I have a lot of control over how long it takes to upload data. The limiting factor is usually the internet connection you have. Many or maybe even most internet connections have a fast download speed but the upload speed is a bit slow. If your photo is very large in size, it might take a while to upload.

The new uploader has a progress bar, so you can see what it's doing and get a better guess as to how long it'll take. Please do let me know how your experience goes next time you post a photo to the database.

I don't know if this has anything to do with the new uploader, but is anyone else seeing this for the avatar of some members?

Ok, on an iPad, you can only do one at a time. On the previous system, I could upload four at a time, sometimes five. Now I have to do a new search for each photo… ideas?

Yes, at the moment it's only one at a time, alas. I do plan to figure out a way to support multi photos again.
