I like to play around with this caudex euphorbia.
As I am very weak in documenting the progress, I'll use this thread to document and share the progress. As usual, feel free to post, comment etc. Smiling

This is my first E. Knuthii, she is the mother and granny of all the knuthii that I have. Grown her from a small cutting for 2 or 3 years now.
Thumb of 2022-04-01/Kaktus/f4e003

These are some of the first batch that I still keep. Root them around Jun/July last year. Single stem, 1 knuthii on the rock, will start to raise / showing the caudex.
Thumb of 2022-04-01/Kaktus/9a7f9d

2nd batch of rooting, around Oct 2021. As I had a lot of cuttings, tried multiple plant in 1 pot.
Thumb of 2022-04-01/Kaktus/b2b493

3rd batch, last month Feb/March 2022. Tried to make Knuthii on the rock,

I reduced the soil of these 2 pots to show the caudex... The first one is growing on a lava rock, hope the rock and roots can attach together.

Made another pot of Knuthii, 3 plants on 1 rock, if the position of the roots growing out of the holes as planned, then it will be the best looking pot. Need to wait for at least 9 to 12 months to see the result..

Curious to know what happened inside, seems like they grow very fast.
It has been 4 weeks since I attached the top bottle on the black pot, now I can hold the bottle and the pot is not falling off. And I can see some roots at the bottom. Will gradually reduce the top media, cm by cm. Can't wait until the soil dries out, so that I can start to work on it Smiling

As for then second pot.
Just reduce further on the soil, it is promising, the roots is strong enough to hold the ceramic pot, will take out and raise further next week

Just raised this plant to its final height, it will not look better if I raise it further up, just need another month to reduce the soil by 1 cm, then just need to continuously prune the long Branch, hope it will look good.

A lot of "project in progress"
Thumb of 2022-07-16/Kaktus/b7b934

This one is more than 4 months old, the new growth are too far high, will chop later on the red line, let's see what happened on the roots.
Thumb of 2022-07-16/Kaktus/b35e0d

One main root on the right and two smaller one on the left, hope the 2 on the left can grow bigger and catch-up with the right one, but base on history, this will not happen, usually for whatever reason the big one will grow bigger and the smaller roots will be stunted.
Thumb of 2022-07-16/Kaktus/4db7cc

Will check again in a couple of months, then possibly started to display the roots.
With this growth of more than 1 inch root, I think I should arrange time to check another 10 pots of the same batch, will try to prune one or two main roots to see if those will trigger multiple branches of the roots Smiling

Checking one of the Knuthii, it has a beautiful roots, will slowly raise the roots, don't know what to do with the branches, just performed a hard pruning on them

Instead of hard pruning, I tried to further raising the roots, so difficult to dig it out, have repot it into a bigger pot, will post again next month when I hard prune the branches.

Repotted the above plant into a larger pot and raised the roots again by 1 inch.
Thumb of 2022-09-02/Kaktus/3dfbc1

Instead of keep on raising the roots, I tried to make some by burying the whole roots in a bigger pots to allow the roots to grow wild, will open and raise them another year, hope I can get some super big roots out of them. They are in 6 to 8 inch pot now.
Thumb of 2022-09-02/Kaktus/18349c

Hard pruned and raised the rest of the plants that I grown on the rocks, had given away a few pots to my friend who visited me while I do the repotting.

4 months after the hard pruning for knuthii on the rocks, somehow most of the hard pruned plants went dormant didn't grow much, I released the plastic bottles of 2 pots to check their roots, looks promising..

All of the above pots, their roots started to grow out from the draining holes, and I can feel that their roots are full inside the pots, pruned one of them... Post it here to record the timing, still need sometime until I can raise them further.

On the rocks, the last plant doesn't look healthy, the roots withered, maybe lack of water or nutrients, apply small amount of 9:25:25 npk to them.

Another interesting one, too bad that the lava rock is too soft, the left part cracked open and fell off when I buried the roots, but still looked good.
