Do you get excited when you see dormant plants start growing foliage again? I know I do, even though I don't have many. Let's see yours!

Plumbago

blue daze (Evolvulus glomeratus)

Most of my cultivated space is used for Coleus & other non-hardy plants, and zone pushing/cheating experiments.

2 weeks ago, I feared my Japanese Maple 'Bloodgood' might have not come through winter (yet it did survive our Snowpocalypse last year). Then I saw these pretty red leaves emerging yesterday. All is well again:

I'm new to daylilies, but the ones I bought from a member here and planted out last summer never really lost their leaves (don't think that's normal though). But they are all putting on new leaves like crazy. Can't wait for all my perennials to be at their best and in full leaf/bloom!

I like the first appearance of my Syneilesis aconitifolia - looks like a bunch of beach umbrellas pushing through the sand.
My Wittmanniana peony also seems to explode out of the ground.
I also like the plants which are blooming simultaneously with the first appearance of foliage - Chloranthus japonicus and Scopolia carniolica are both good examples.

TY. : ) It's welcome to own the whole area where it is. The overall goal is to eventually fill all spaces with perennial plants for the hummingbirds, butterflies, and bees. Nectar-a-rama. I have some seeds of other species of Asclepias (tuberosa and speciosa), getting a late start but going to see if some of them will sprout. The species can duke it out for the territory.

I was admiring those cute little red-foliaged trilliums - very cute.
Tiffany, I also have lots of areas where brutish plants are duking it out against each other. The irony is I am fond of several of these garden thugs (incl some species of asclepias).
The way some plants first make their appearance in spring is fascinating to me. I always assumed all that is going on under the ground is a complex root system. But the way some of these plants emerge from the ground with buds already fully formed - there is a lot more going on down there than I gave credit for.

I have a clump of variegated solomon seal which is also just pushing through the soil. I was admiring it from my breakfast table this morning. The bright pink emerging shoots were being backlit by the low angle of the just-breaking sunlight and it made the pink practically glow. It was too cold (34 degrees) (and I was too lazy) to go out and take a picture...

Honestly, I thought they had probably died in our last freeze in mid-March because I forgot to cover that pot, but clearly they did not.
