This Ajuga is very vigorous and it started out as a straggly clearance save from Merrifield Garden Center for $4.00.

History of this plant:
First planted; March 2021:

First bloom; Spring 2021:

First flush of growth while blooming; Spring 2021:

Fully recovered; Summer 2021:

Second flush of growth. Starting to encroach the first rock; Summer 2021:

Almost a year since I planted it, filling in. Starting to cover the bricks and has covered the first rock; Fall 2021:

This year's bloom. It has sooooo many stolon thingies (See the stems in the background) and is now invading the area, and is cascading over the bricks); Spring 2022:

I love bugleweed! I've used it at every house as a ground cover, it grows so thick it chokes out weeds and prevents them from finding a spot to root. Beautiful banner!

You could also pair it with the super common Ajuga Burgundy Glow, for more texture and color Thumbs up

Here's a bigger photo of the Ajuga Choco Chip from a month or so ago before it bloomed.

All the areas with stems are now new plantlets

Bugleweed spreads by sending out runners with new plants at the end and those will root. If I want to help it spread faster, I cut off some of those runners and pin them down to the soil in another place, and the roots will grab into the soil. I either do it just before a good rain so I don't have to bother watering them at all. My favorite variety is Bronze Beauty, I think it spreads a bit faster than Chocolate Chip, and is the same color, just bit bigger leaves. Bugleweed is very maintenance-free as well.

Jeboba, you need to take a break from all the web programming/coding. It's messing with your brain, because the bee is right there, everyone can see it. Whistling Whistling

bee has been banished to the shadow realm and now resides within the backrooms

the rescue operation will commence three weeks ago 🗿
