Pretty, My Nanking Cherry should be open tomorrow. Then come the Serviceberries and the cherries and crabapples. My crocus are just finishing up and my roses have finially leafed out. But most of my shrubs are still bare with no leaves.

Weeds that I have each spring. They have little bublets and I am always pulling and digging these out. They bloom early spring and then dissapear until next year.


Here is a little garden area. Has shrubs in the back and now those daffs blooming. More daffs to open. In between the daffs are lilies which bloom in the summer. Then I just stick some annuals in the very front for all season color.


This is a garden section I call The Terraces. Raised beds one on top of another built into the hillside. Looks really stunning in the early summer but still needs work for early spring.

Beautiful!! I love the purple crocus! where did you get those? Everything is very nice. I found some small daffodils blooming today that I had forgot about. They were here when we bought this house and for years they just never bloomed. Just the folliage because they were planted too deep. Last year I felt sorry for them and dug up a lot of them and replanted them.

I have tons of deadnettle, too. A neighbor let a whole hillside of it grow in his yard a few years ago. Since then, it has been trying to take over the whole neighborhood.

Well whatever is blooming out there today will just have to wait. Raining heavily so no going outside for me. I guess the rain will be good for the garden as everything is waking up for spring.

My roses are leafed out finially though. I noticed that yesterday. Now they start to grow and then make buds for the June Flush.

Mine are leafing out too, darn! I wanted to move them!


Dead Nettle is very, very, invasive I am just now finding out. Because it seems to bloom in the middle of winter and starts dropping seeds before I can get out, it's too cold to pull weeds in the winter! I have pulled up a ton of them and trashed them, my plan is to pull up every one I see and put down preen in the fall to keep any fallen seeds from germinating.

My tree turned pink overnight! Could it be the humidity? we went from dry to humid kind of suddenly. Could not get good pictures because of the wind.

Another tree that is blooming!! My Birch trees(River Birch (Betula nigra) and these flowers are called Catkins.

Susan, vetch is another one that people have mixed feelings about. I used to HATE it, and I would never plant it, but lots of people use is as a green manure. I have learned to pull the top off and leave the root because the GA clay can use all the rotting roots in the soil we can get!

There are a lot of weeds that actually have a pretty flower, but alas, if they grow where they're not wanted and enmass, they are just a WEED!

Right now I am having an issue with red sorrell. Almost impossible to get rid of. and I see it going to seed already all over the sides of the road. Ugh.

Yuck, I was reading about a great cover crop yesterday and it is mustard greens. They sterilize the soil and suppress weed growth. You can use it as a mulch to add nutrients to the soil.

I use buckwheat, crimson clover and purple vetch. Mainly use those three because I happen to like them all. I think they are pretty but other people might think they are weeds growing. Especially the buckwheat.

My in ground peas that I planted March 21 are finially prouting. Geez that took a long time. The ones in pots, planted later are way ahead. Oh, and my inion sets are sprouting green tops.

My cover crop seeds are mostly sprouted too. The crimson clover is doing nicely but the hairy vetch is just started and the squirrels have made a mess of it by digging.

They are not eating your crocus are they?? I haven't planted any in a while, not at this house but at the old house I had to bury a moth ball along with the bulb. To keep the squirrels from digging them up.

The american vetch was choking out my other plants and seemed to be parasitic because the limbs that they were attached to all seemed to die, like it was sucking the sap out or something....it was crazy. I got about 12 baby plants this year probably from the neglected seeds. I really would like to try the mustard seed. I found Johnny appleseed and a pound of those seeds are maybe 3.50 and as for clover I have been adding seeds to the lawn for a long time. Not the Crimson but the Dutch White.
