I'm down to just one more to be put away!! The last one is B. Shorty's Variegated that we had sunk in the huge pot out front. What a task as she grew far more than
it was expected. She loved her new spot!! Enjoy the photos.

The small tropical greenhouse is 8 X 10 and will be kept at 70.
The Brug House is 10 X 10 and will be kept at 60/65.

Karmahappytoes,

That's awesome! Quick question, keeping your Brugs at 60/65 degrees will they continue to grow? Go dormant? No grow lights correct?

PS…do you keep Shorty's Variegated in the large pot to prevent it from tipping over? Or is it easier to dig up and store?

Hey JoeBrug
The goal of the 60/65 is to kind of put them in a state of no growing but they
don't listen well. In the Brug House I have one LED and one shop light, very min.
They slowly grow the leaves back which I remove once a month so it's not to mess in there. It does allow the seedpods to grow.

I got that huge pot several years ago and the spot off the driveway is a great spot for Shorty's Variegated, hot and sunshine! It's what makes her happy. Last spring I couldn't lift the mom Shorty's up due to some health issues, so I opted to take her
daughter and put her in the pot. It sits on a large pot put in the middle of the cement pot. Then filled with dirt, which makes for the statement to the entry way to the house. But she quickly took off to the point I'm not sure she will go back there next year. I just finished stripping her, so now I either take cuttings or just put her in the greenhouse and keep an eye on the seedpods. I notice yesterday that the bees have found them in the greenhouse!!

Perfect! I'm doing something similar this year. I don't have a greenhouse, but I do have a basement. There's a spare room which will serve as my "Brug Room". I can bring in the plants without having to cut them back too much…just trim the leaves. If I shutoff the heating vent, I can probably keep it around 60 degrees.

Not sure about the lighting. So you do want minimal lighting. No grow lights needed, right? I have a shop light in the room now.

I bet Shortys Variegated makes quite the impression when in full bloom. Is she a pink color?

JoeBrug, just use the shop lite and you should be fine. B. Shorty's Variegated starts off a lite yellow, turns a peach color and then towards the end a burnt peach. She nods, that means the bloom doesn't hang straight down like most do. Well I went out after lunch and did a small flat of cuttings as she wouldn't fit at all. : (

Finally put away my Brugs for the Winter. Decided to take 3 large cuttings with the "Y" already formed.

I'm also keeping two Brugs dormant in an small unheated storage room.

Keeping two more in a semi dormant state in my back porch which I will keep around 60 degrees.

I gutted out the back porch to insulate and run a heating vent to keep it warm and serve as an all season porch. However, it's now October and that project was never completed. It will serve as my green house for this Winter.

Well, after all the near disasters with my brugs this year, there are rewards! We're going in the garage at night and out in the day. Hope that it lasts a while longer.

That's awesome! What's the temperature like in KS?

My Brugs are full of buds and many have begun to open. I'm putting them in the garage at night as well. Hoping for some blooms. 🙏

I went down to the basement to check on my cuttings, and what a surprise I received. On One of the large cuttings, I I left a few buds, not sure why, but I did. To my surprise, the calyx have opened and the flower is rapidly growing. This is all new to me so bare with me through this excitement. Lol.

bumplbea, thank you for the evening chuckle!! I totally agree.

Joe, Sorry it's been a bad 6 days and I'm just sitting down to reread posts. B. Shorty's Variegated starts our creamy yellow, pale salmon and a burnt umber by the
time he blooms drop. Right now with cuttings, and 3 large ones in the greenhouse all blooming one can't be in there to long, the fragrance is that strong. I had to water and like you why waste a bud, let them do their thing instead of cutting them off when you do cuttings. Surprise!! Photos tomorrow when I'm feeling better and the drugs wear off. Can't wait to see your photos when they are in full bloom!!

Bea,

Yes indeed. 😂😂😂. I wish I had kept more buds on the cutting…only kept 4 or 5.

Karma,
Sorry to hear you're not feeling well. I can definitely relate. My back flared up last week and the cool, rainy weather is not helping my arthritis.

I can just imagine the fragrance coming out of the greenhouse. I hope to have a similar scenario in my garage or back porch. I have one potted brug that I keep in the garage at night and bring out during the day. I will bring in my porch, buds and all, once it gets too cold.

Joe I can just see you tucking in your brug's at night safely in the garage they are outstanding specimens. I tip my hat to you.
Next you'll be adding a pillow and blanky. Just in case!

Bea,

Yes you got me pegged 💯. It's been a long journey from my first brugmansia cutting 3 years ago. This is my first year seeing blooms. I'm hooked! Thanks to this wonderful site/forum, I've been able to improve my brugmansia game. Lol.

I keep a binky near by as well. Smiling

Just found this thread. Soooo..............some of you just strip the leaves off of your brugs before putting them away for the winter? I cut mine back, and almost cried this year when I did it. One of my NOID ones was at least 7 feet tall. And my double white was just gorgeous. I took cuttings from them, and the double pink also. I'm wanting to see if I can get a couple of them to grow at our winter home in Texas.

AnnaZ, I'm a stripper here! Less mess when they are tucked away! Once a month I go out and stip the new leaves. When you have a lot it's best to control the area or you will have a mess. I had a 12-footer this year and ya know it just wouldn't fit. I
cried but know it's the best for the plant. Do take the cuttings with you and see how they grow down in TX! Report back here on their progress!!
