Group of 5 A.arabicum

All 5 are the same age - seed sown June of 2013

When less than a year old - 4 of the 5 had "4 inline stems" emerging from the caudex

Thumb of 2022-10-29/deepsouth/753502

"Fixing" the inline stems involved cutting the inline stems off from the caudex .... like a peeled potato -

the result

What would happen if you took 3 or 4 adeniums and planted them very close together in the same pot? Sliced maybe a bit off a side of a caudex and pressed them evenly together... sort of like sideways grafting if I'm making sense. Would they grow into one huge trunk?

There is one that was started by @Kaktus but I think this will do well for adenium seedlings not obesum.

3 or 4 adeniums in one pot ...? ...the bigger will eventually "take out" the others by robbing them of water and nutrients

sliced and grafted down the middle ...? ...am guessing here ... that would kill 2 adeniums ...an analogy of an adenium plant ....is a little like this ..... a water balloon full of water ...the top sliced off would probably survive ...but cut vertically all the water would drain out

have planted 2, 3 and more seeds really close together just see what would happen ...as seedlings, they grow together & they look like they might "bind" together ....but often fall apart the first time potting media is washed free / or / jarred or shaken apart ... or as multi adeniums in one pot ...the bigger will eventually "take out" the others

with that said ...experiment

I have a big one with 5 small ones right now just because I have way too many pots but my plan is to transfer the smaller ones once they recover.

James, did you take any pics right after cutting? (Peeling the potato?)

no, they looked like a peeled potato - like where the "eyes were".... then it took weeks for new stems to emerge from the edges of the cuts

To get a bushier plant can I trim off the long branches, or will that hurt them? When is the right time to trim them?

James, thank you for the description!

Those really look like shrunken versions of some of the pics I've seen of Adeniums in natural habitat, aside from the blooms/buds of course.

@rknrl54 it will not, I did it on my tall leggy ones and best time for me to prune is spring when in active growth. And you can root the cuttings if you like.
