Here is my first flower for the month of November, this is Phragmipedium Inca Embers 'Max' AM/AOS! This is a medium sized Phragmipedium and I know it flowered last year with several blooms in succession.
I have no idea as to why but I am very partial to reds, oranges and pinks when it comes to Phrags. This plant was outside from mid May until early October and I honestly thought that I might lose the inflorescence. It did go down twice to the mid 30's before it came inside. It is growing in my big front window underneath a light strip. Several of them spend the winter here.
This is Phrag. Andean Fire X Phragmipedium longifolium.
I like the size of the flower, about 4 1/2" wide, color is really a deep, kind of blood red if you will. The inner rim of the pouch is a rich bright yellow with intense Cardinal red spots! I feel that the overall form is quite nice and well balanced.
