Everybody, I'll take all the wishes for Semp Growing Success that you al throw at me but at this stage "Staying Alive" is what I'm wishing for my collection with all the quirk-y weather that may come along before this winter is over.
I wish you all a good start to this NEW YEAR of 2023! Hurray!

Cleaning the seed cleaning table Thinking LOL!
I have seed leftover from Sol last year I want to try. Maybe I'll order more semperivivum seeds this year too.

Got my first 35 seed heads cleaned and packaged. Unfortunately only about 15% of the total semps and of course lots of Kniphofia, asters, alliums, etc. The iris, daylily and daffodil seeds are already planted.

I have discarded a mushy semp. From Home Depot, the webby that did well in the summer heat did not approve of the freeze, I think I lost both plants (separate pots). It was Cebenese, and had been doing well. I guess if I ever get another it would go in the greenhouse in winter but that might be too humid. or in during hard freezes, if I have room which is not going so great. But for now it's in the compost. Happy New Year!

Happy New Year everyone!
Hi Matt! Yes my aloe aristata did perfect outside all last winter. I did move it somewhere else I think it just got to wet. I think if you could keep it dry it would be a hardy plant.

It survived winter for you? Gosh, I'll have to try an A. aristata outside then!

Yes I will be getting another one! For some reason I moved it right under the eave and it has literally been soaked since fall. Just don't do that! D'Oh!

Nice! Tony Avent of Plant Delights has one on one of his berms south of Raleigh. It is "lifesize" and flowering. Reminds me of the ones we had full grown and flowering when I lived in Hawaii.
He gets away with some pretty amazing stuff Hardiness wise. I just didn't think I would have as good success.
We have plenty of zone 9 stuff that gets tossed into the cold, heated shed for the winter. So i always just added it inside.
Thanks for the courage to try it outside.

Yes! There is a beautiful botanical garden not far from where I live. They have all kinds of stuff that should not be outside here, growing beautifully. You could always try it with plants that you have extra of.

That is what I do, test the extra plant to see if it can survive out PNW winter weather.

My semps outside are ok. Now that the temperature is slightly warmer, the Sedum are really showing how damaged they got during the cold snap. I haven't been outside to photograph them much; 1) because I wear gloves and it's hard to use the phone with them on, 2) There's not much to look at.

Off topic, but I've been enjoying Holsinger's concert band works. I really like the Children's Dances pieces. I think all of them are multi-meter?
My favorite out of them, I think: Graysondance https://www.youtube.com/watch?...

What kind of sedum do you have? Some do die back to the ground. They might surprise you in the spring I wouldn't count them as dead yet.

I'm talking about the matting ones, not the Hylotelephiums and Phedimus.
Petrosedum., especially the mexican types did TERRIBLE.
Sedum 'Coral Reef' turned to mush; but this happens every winter.
I had a lot of smaller Hylotelephium which are likely dead due to the multiple cold snaps; but I'm still hopefull Crossing Fingers! . Small as in quarter-size before winter

I just checked; somehow my Bluet has been moved across the bed. UFO activity? No, probably chipmunks or some other animal. My Sempervivum tectorum is looking good. I really like the minty coloration with maroon tips in the summer.
