My first propagation, B. Looking Glass - I have these in water rooting but hope I can find a nice shade for these in the garden!

I'm tired of hauling my plants in when it freezes so these are going to be well rooted by the time these gets potted up in late January/early February 2023.

Happy New Year! It was so foggy last night you could only hear the fireworks, couldn't see them.

Nice bloom Ginger Thumbs up , mine are about done blooming now.
Gigi, the foggy pond is pretty, it was foggy here this morn, but sun is out now at noon.
My orchids are back outside again enjoying warmer weather. Sunny and 75.

This was the fog on our pond early New Years Day. TV weather folks warned it will be worse in the morning and it is supposed to hang around until 1pm. That sounds weird to me but the pond water got pretty cold during the freeze and the temp tomorrow is supposed to be around 80. It is just a strange year.

Alice cool picture... looks a bit spooky.

Fog is pretty common in the winter months here in Central FL, and warm days in the winter are pretty common too, it's something to do with the combo of heat and upper colder air and high dew points. One of my kids had to do a report on the fog in Florida once. I used to hate driving to work in it.

It's pretty foggy this morning, but a cool 57 degrees, very moist out. Came across this green anole enjoying the 80 degree sun yesterday in the garden.

Our first rain 🌧 ☔️ of the Year 2023! Sarasota will get a band of rains too!

Cooler weekend Smiling Hurray! hope not too cold! I just got some of my desert roses outside the tent and I don't want to have to get them back inside the tent.

Worried if there is another below 35 degrees mid to late January!

We had that band of storms blow through yesterday also. It was swift, just a few minutes of rain and wind with one or two noisy thunder boomers. Looks like we will be having a few nights in the 40's coming up but the days are all forecast to be in the 70's. Perfect weather IMO.

That band completely disappeared before it got here, but there is some on the radar this morning we might get. This front is of no concern for me, one night going to mid 40's. Yes Alice I agree... next week my favorite temperatures all week long, gonna be a do something outside everyday kind of week. Of course things will change when the next front comes in Friday the 13th.

I like the cold weather but not too cold. Mid January historically here the temps dips on or slightly below 35 degrees for 2 to 3 nights/early mornings.

Yep, I have no problem with those 2 hour dips in the early morning. The all nighters are a different story.

I like to get a chance to wear my winter clothes, and we do love sitting by our fire pits.

We didn't get any of the rain yesterday, maybe some spit. It is 50 this morning. The leaves are falling off my Turkey oak like crazy from the freeze, so making a nice mess all over everything.

We have been working on trapping rats, they're so brazen we've seen them in the daylight. We were having them trip our traps and eat the bait, but no rat. I got on the Internet and read to place two traps next to each other about an inch apart, that way the rat will run across the other trap and trip it. Well that worked and we got one, then last night we got one rat in each trap, so it is working. Those dang rats ate my gingers all the way down to the ground. Grumbling

Good idea on the trap placement Sherrri. You obviously have discriminating rats as they choose the good stuff to eat. Hilarious! We have had hungry rabbits here but never rats to my knowledge. We are on a pond here and I assumed we would have rats but I have never seen any. Crossing Fingers!

It is 42° this morning and dang if I don't see some frost on the house rooftops...ugh.

We seem to get these rats in the cooler months, usually it is just one family and after we get about five or six they're gone for awhile. When we had Kit Kat, she would catch the babies and leave them on our step, but she's been gone for six months, so the rats are back. Of course my garden lures them since it has a lot of native plants that feed the birds, and rats love the same food. Lots of lakes and a creek four houses down from us also.

Our temps dropped to 45 degrees and it is still 48 out there this morning. Hopefully it will warm up enough to dry the media of my desert roses. So I can slowly put them back inside the camping tent before the next temp drop to below 40s! I am guessing maybe in the next couple weeks we will get those cold 🥶 freezing temps again!

I didn't bring my desert roses in this last freeze, I just tossed a cover over them. I see the largest oldest plant lost all the leaves, but then it does most winters. I see new growth coming out, so hopefully it's okay. The four smaller plants still have some leaves they're under the cover of taller plants. The older plant's pot is heavy and I usually move it to the FL room if we go below 40°, which is just six foot away, but I couldn't do that on Christmas with all my guest. Crossing Fingers!

Wow that's great to know they are more cold tolerant in your area. I think you are surrounded by beautiful trees too. Mine are definitely too young to handle any cooler temps below 40s so I have to baby them.
