'Dixie Dazzle' has been in the gardens just a year, but already it has impressed me. The stats list it for 26-inches, and it definitely reached that height... and slightly taller. The blooms easily overfilled my palm, so I think the 5-inch would be in the ball park.
These are gorgeous blooms.
In the very early morning, as the sun has started above the horizon, they open quickly and fully - despite the piecrust ruffling on the edge, none of them hung up. They start the day with a deeper pink-peach intensity, but that shifts very quickly toward peach and, as the day goes along, the tones continue to shift towards golden-peach. It's almost as though the golden sunlight is absorbed by the petals and etched into each bloom.
This daylily, though it looks elegant and frilly, prissy-edged and demure, is shameless - she flaunts her deeply ruffled gold edges like a flamenco Gypsy dancer, layered in fiery petticoat ruffles. And Dixie Dazzle has a surprisingly thick substance - there is nothing fragile here! Her rich colour is enhanced by the quilted petals, bold and sassy as the day goes on - apparently immune to the afternoon sun and almost glowing in the gardens, contrasting well with the dark foliage.
And Dixie Dazzle amazed me ... sending up reblooming scapes even here in the north, flowering well into August. I would recommend this dazzling beauty which, while listed for zone 5, has been a show stopper here in zone 3!
