Here is a pot I purchased on one of my shopping sprees.
I love the shape, the color and the added design elements.

Thanks, It was at Timberline. I have been waiting to plant it before I shared it.

Looks like they gouged out a seam into the side of the pot then layered in crushed glass. I think I have a little better shot taken when I first brought it home.

I am trying to get my pot ghetto cleared up before everything drys out. We have a bit of wind most afternoons which does not help.

Wow, I can see it in this new photo. That is beautiful. I wonder if they make the pot, add a layer of glass then add more of the hypertufa mix over that?

I believe that's how they did it - tufa/glass/tufa. And I remember reading years ago that people use broken windshield glass for that since it doesn't splinter or have the sharp, cutting edges like other glass. It's very pretty Marilyn, and you've also got a nice assortment of plants in it. Thumbs up

I was just thinking of some of the beach glass, it has no sharp edges, and come in such beautiful colors.

I tip my hat to you. What is the technique to which you refer?

Glass and hypertufa together? Shrug! Shrug!

Nope, it's on my list to try in the next few weeks. I just need to develop some muscles to be able to pick up that bag of cement Smiling I want to try making some pots as well as a little pig mold that I got on ebay. I also want to do a giant leaf casting.

Deb: Youe hefting tha bag of sakrete sounds familier.
I love to make things and learn new methods.
I made hypertufas a few years ago and hope there have been some improvments in formulas that withstand winter freezes.
Mine dissolved after 2 years and they were covered with plastic.

Marilyn: The tufa planter is just great. I believe the tufa mix is pressed into a form, as the mix gets to a certain height they add the glass ,then continue with tufa. Are the walls as thick as they look?
Man -oh-man.I wish i could make stuff. No controle and I need a prop to stand up.

On the other website there was a gardener who worked in "Papercrete" its similar to hypertufa. She could build large pieces using chicken wire armature
.http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/472203/?hl=papercrete
try the link in next post.
