We came from here
The thread "Our Orchid blooms in July 2023 🌼" in Orchids forum

Today is August 1. and we start the new thread for this month.
Around here the Orchids are adding growth while on Summer vacation outside. A few still put on a nice show.
Phragmipedium Sorcerer's Fire keeps on blooming in the cage

The Schomburgkia tibicinis is still blooming from the very same spike started up some weeks ago. The Passiflora climbs up on it! Smiling

And the Epipactis helleborine at our Pennsylvania place are partially in seed, the top portions are still blooming on many. We have never seen this terrestrial Orchid growing as tall as this year, some are almost 3 feet!!

Nothing left this month but this half wilted mini Phal from early June:

It has one bud left, but the last 2 buds dropped, so I'm not holding my breath.

Diana, does this one always blooms with missing parts? Interesting! At least it is still blooming!

Ursula,
The wilt is making petals overlap on the sides, so it looks like 3 instead of 5. Nothing's missing to my knowledge. I think it will be falling off completely in a day or two, and then there will be no orchid blooms here until Fall, unless the one bud matures.

I got this little Phal off the sale table at the grocery after Valentine's Day 2022. It didn't bloom this Valentine's Day, preferring to keep me in suspense. I'm glad I waited.

Lucy, that is one of the prettiest phals. I've ever seen.
I'm partial to those colors and you don't see them often in phals. Great find!
Still struggling with fusiarum over here.

This is just from last week Thumbs down I think the prolonged heat here is pushing many over the edge. But I do see some improvement which gives me reason to keep plugging away.

Oh, my Lindsey! Hopefully you got the Fusarium wilt under control. Your Orchids are gorgeous! Love the Yellow Yum-Yums! Lovey dubby

I wonder, in other years I always lost some Orchids in Summer due to Fusarium. I assume that's the cause of new growth turning to black mush and spreading throughout the plant. Nowadays, pretty much all my larger Cattleyas wind up in hanging baskets with roots dangling freely. I would really have expected trouble this year, temps in the nineties and almost daily really heavy downpours. So far so good! Knock wood! Smiling

I think what you describe is another bad thing, Ursula. Brown or black rot.
Fusarium affects the roots and rhyzome. .. making it so the plant can't absorb water. If you cut into the rhyzome there's a distinct purple circle around. It kills the roots and the dormant eyes so all future growth is impossible. It shows up as a yellowing of the leaf ( usually on the back bulb) which falls off .

I'm very enamored with your Sienna Stars, Lindsey, just a lovely graceful flower with wonderful colors and delicate dots. I'm definitely going to have to visit SunCoast Orchids one of these days. Never been to Palmer Orchids either, which really isn't too far from me. I need some new plants!

Palmers is amazing ,with stuff for everyone!
SunCoast isn't open to the public but has open houses every once in awhile, I'll let you know when they announce the next one. They are at most shows though.

I didn't go to the Sarasota show this year, first time in a while I missed it.

Would love to go to an open house at SunCoast.

Last year it was insanely crowded. I was there 30 minutes after it opened and the parking lot was already filled. The exhibition hall was unpleasantly packed. I didn't last long.
