The title pretty much says it all. There are many hybrids of the reticulata type Iris that could be posted. Is there a place for them anywhere? I can see how to post when you have a species Iris, but haven't found any category for hybrids.

Here is an example from Alan McMurtrie in Toronto, Canada. Sea Green (97-CQ-1). A second generation sophenensis x danfordiae hybrid. Permission granted for use of photo by Alan. He requests his name and site be included with his photos. http://reticulatas.com/

And as the flower ages, the color does too.

We have over 71,000 iris in the database, species listed first then hybrids/cultivars in alphabetical order.
https://garden.org/plants/brow...

Sea Green is registered: https://wiki.irises.org/Main/S...
it just hasn't been added to our database by anyone yet. I'll go create an entry now and link it here when done.
Anyone can add a new plant, just add the 2 minimum basics: genus and cultivar name, along with a link to a vendor or the official registry as I posted above.

Here it is:
Reticulated Iris (Iris 'Sea Green')

I also just created a hyperlink for his website. When you add his photos, in the caption section type in this exact phrase " Photo courtesy of Alan McMurtrie of Reticulatas.com" and it will automatically create a clickable link to his site.

However, you may want to let him know, my virus protection program did not allow me to access his site as he has an outdated security certificate. I kept getting this warning " chrome.exe attempted to establish a connection relying on an untrusted certificate to reticulatas.com. We blocked the connection to keep your data safe since untrusted certificates are issued by unrecognized Certificate Authorities."

Sue, thanks for your help. I've told him about the security warnings I was getting for his site. Hopefully he'll get it fixed. I went anyway and I'm taking my chances. He has outdated email links too. But, his plants are amazing.

Now to go back and see about how to post up plants. But here is the problem. Not all of his plants are commercially available. A few are, but in limited quantities. So I'll limit postings to registered plants and available plants. Some are being grown out in Holland, but even that has risks. One grower took one of the plants Alan sent over for evaluation and registered it himself. In effect, stealing the plant. It cost Alan over 50,000 dollars or pounds to get his own plant back.

Will do! But, I can't say I'll do all of them!

Question regarding photo credits: I looked at Sea Green today and noticed that when I click on the photos in the Photo Gallery, the credit at top says, "Photo by Jerrytheplater". Is there a way to change that since they are not my photos, I just uploaded them? Yes, I know the caption has the proper credit as requested by the hybridizer (and thanks for that link automation), but I don't like to see the top billing being given to me.

Oh, and I guess its obvious, but I'm not sure.

When adding a hybrid to the Iris database, does the site automatically alphabetize it? I think I must have been thinking that I had to find the correct space in the long list to place it.

The photos say " Uploaded by Jerrytheplater" within the box but I see where the 'Photo by' and will ask Dave about edit thing as well. Thumbs up

And yes, they automatically get alphabetized.
Go to the main Plant Database page and find the 'Add a new plant to the database' and proceed from there.

Just an FYI, this iris (Reticulated Iris (Iris 'Sea Green')) would not technically be classed as a SpecX iris. Rather, it should be classed as a Reticulata. The American Iris Society is the world registrar for rhizomatous irises, but not bulbous irises. The world registrar for bulbous irises is the Koninklijke Algemeene Verenniging Voor Bloembollencultuur (KAVB) in the Netherlands.

To make a long story short, when the Iris wiki was created they wanted to add entries for bulbous irises to it, but they don't fit into the AIS classification system so they shoehorned them into the SpecX group.

Thanks Kent. I didn't know this. I am a total novice. Am I able to edit to put it in the correct spot?

Kent corrected it already. Thumbs up

And our webmaster Dave fixed that section above the enlarged photo to now also read " Uploaded by Jerrytheplater". Thanks for alerting us to that!

So now I'm confused again. I was just searching for the Iris hybrid "Sunshine" (a reticulata like plant) by just typing in "Iris sunshine". I scrolled through all nine pages and found two entries on the eighth page. One I added a photo to today-"Iris (Iris reticulata 'Sunshine')" Reticulated Iris (Iris 'Sunshine.') .

And another without a photo under- "Reticulated Iris (Iris 'Sunshine.')" .

Which is correct? I have added other photos today all under the Reticulata category. Sorry if I've misplaced them. I guess I have to get away from the computer and go out and clean up my Pitcher Plants after bringing them out of winter storage.

It's a duplicate. I'll take care of it.

Thanks

Kent, would you please check Iris 'Spot On' Reticulated Iris (Iris 'Spot On.') It appears to be misclassified. All of the others are in this format: Reticulated Iris (Iris 'hybrid name').

Jerry, I've noticed that you check the alpine gardening box for these irises in your data proposals. They are rock garden plants, but they don't meet the description of alpine plants on the data proposal form: "Small and hardy mat-forming plants with a deep taproot that can only thrive in a harsh environment."

You are right, but its the closest of all of the choices. I'll gladly remove all of them if that is what you think best. Or, better yet, can you add a rock garden choice?

Unfortunately, I don't have the power to add a rock garden choice to the database, but I can quickly delete the alpine gardening checkmark from all of the irises.

Great, go ahead. I was going to start last night but then thought of how it would need approval and cause a lot of extra work. Is there a process with the site where suggestions like adding a new category can be suggested? Do I do it, or do you?
