My Black Lace Elderberry cuttings are also rooting. I'll update with more photos of the other plants I am trying in this device. All cuttings were dipped in Clonex gel.

Looking forward to hearing more about this .. Have you figured the total cost of the machine + all the accoutrements that go with it - such as how much it costs per clone etc? Are the liquids reusable or do you have to replace them often?

I just use plain tap water in the machine. No special liquids required. The Clonex gel goes a long way and does help speed the process up. You can also make these devices cheaply with plastic totes from Wal-Mart, etc. If a cutting is more difficult to propagate, I dip the cutting in the gel every other day for about a week. I turn the machine off and let the gel sit on the cuttings for about 10-15 minutes. The plants don't wilt either with this machine. Another nice thing about it is I can go on vacation and come back and all my cuttings are rooted. I'm just doing this for fun, but I can see clearly how this machine could pay for itself rather quickly.

Yes. LOL. Every single time I Google how to build these, it's people growing weed. They have very good info. It's amazing how much they know about propagation. :rofl:

I should have another update on my EZ Clone Trial tomorrow. One cool thing about this thing is the cuttings don't wilt after I pot them up and put them outside. I guess it's because they have such large roots established before I pot them up.

Man, it looks so cool. I so want one!!!

Just to give you an idea how good these work....Here is a cutting of an Echinacea I did a couple of years ago. Echinacea won't grow a plant from this type of cutting, but someone told me I couldn't root a stem cutting of an Echinacea. Never tell me I can't do something! I figured out that the stem has to be slit vertically down the center. Then I made sure the Clonex gel got into the center of the cutting. That worked so now if I have a very difficult to root plant I always slit the end of the stem. You can learn so much from just trying something despite what people say!

Here is my Sambucus nigra 'Black Lace' (Elderberry) cutting. The roots are really coming in good now! I know people who have trouble rooting these, but it hasn't even been 2 weeks yet! I'll let the roots grow about 2 more days before I plant this cutting. When the roots get to this stage they start growing rapidly.

Have you tried any roses? Those are the ones that seem impossible!

I will try one. I will start it today to see how it works.

That is just too great! I had a sweet olive tree I was trying to root and never had any luck with. I wonder if it would in that?

I'm not sure. I have had good luck with most things I've tried. You would have to experiment with different types of cuttings: green or hard wood and the amount of wounding to the stem. I find that cutting a slit into the end of the stem helps a lot of plants. I think it exposes more of the cutting to the rooting gel.

I took 3 small cuttings from my David Austin Rose 'Tradescant' to try. I'm not good with Roses and they seem to always get diseases and die here, but I do like that one when it grows.

My DH and I made one of these from a 18 gallon tote bucket, a pond pump and made a H frame from PVC pipe, a fish tank rock bubbler and thermostat. Bought the baskets and round sponges at a hydroponic store. Total cost was about 100.00. Works great. I was told that the sponge hair cullers work well too but never tried that. I was going to give mine a cleaning this week if your interested I could take pictures of it when its apart. The only trouble with this one is it tends to leak out the lid so have to keep an eye on the water level. yep those weed growers know their stuff!!! Some very useful information on U-tube.

I have rooted heliotrope, fuchsia, Elderberry, sedum, so much more can't recall. Just love it. Good tip on the slicing up the middle and using the cloning gel. I just use water but will give that a try. Never had any luck with a clematis, might give your technique a try on those. Never tried roses, I'm just not a fan.

Thanks! I love Roses, but they are such a pain. I had to remove three because of that rose rosette disease that's going around. Of course, it only hit the roses in the front yard! You should post photos. I think people would be interested.

Im trying some Cape Fuscia, Phlox, and Crossvine 'Tangerine Beauty' too.

Thanks, Karen. Here's an update. I have had roots on this Phlox for a couple of days, but I wanted them to grow some before I updated. These are very small tip cuttings of a side branch; therefore, they are taking longer to root. It makes sense because I didn't have a large enough stem to wound much and make more contact with the gel. Some people don't use much light when rooting their cuttings because they think that plant growth prevents root growth; however, I have found that cuttings that are trying to grow have more reason to grow roots. It just makes sense to me that a cutting putting out new growth is going to need more roots than one that is just sitting there doing nothing. The cuttings that start putting out new leaves seem to immediately start putting out roots afterwards. This is why I give my cuttings light 24 hours a day. This Phlox cutting has been inside for about 3 weeks. This is the first time I've had luck with this type of Phlox from tip cuttings. I think you would need an intermittent mist system to propagate these using the traditional method.

Very nice! The bad news is that I ended up on the wrong website and now I know how to grow marijuana.

It's legal here in WA., but still illegal at my house.
