I'm ecstatic...my seedling from seed has a bud!!! Hurray!

I'm not sure which one is her parent: Princess Di, Rooguchi, sweet autumn, or crispa. Didn't tag her (you know, how that goes, I'll do it later & then forget).

Way to Go!
Can you tell us how you treated the seeds?
How you germinated them?
And we do want to see the bloom!

Here she is...

She reminds me of my Jackmannii (?) but I don't recall getting seeds from her or maybe I did... Confused I also have Ramona...this is what happens when seedlings are not clearly marked!

Well, I do have some seeds of Nelly Moser, crispa and Princess Di (marked) so one day, hopefully, they too will have blooms.

Caroline, the Princess Di seedlings sprung up by themselves - I found them in the pot; so I have several of them.
I don't do anything to the seeds; just put them in seed starting soil or vermiculate in bright light and kept moist.

Is there a thread on here that explains how to grow clematis from seed? I have a bunch of seedlings in the garden but they are scattered here and there and I have no idea how long it took them to germinate. Being hardy vines I'm assuming they need a cold period to break dormancy but how long and how many cycles of cold and warm temps?

I have tried unsuccessfully to start clematis from seed. I got a few radar love seedlings, but they didn't make it once i planted them out in the garden.

I would love pointers on starting seeds. Another list stated that they can take a long time - years- to germinate. I think they also recommended stirring the seeds a bit once in a while.

I may try again, but have my hands full this year replanting my clematis - I just moved with my plants into a new place.

Andi, the only seeds I've gotten to germinate are the rooguchi and crispa. I really don't have any secret on starting them-- probably just fresh seeds and good seed starting mix and keeping moist.
