I order my tape from Amazon too. When I get home from work I'll tell you what item number it is. Aren't they wonderful machines?!

I just get my tape at Wal-mart. Will check the Amazon site. I put 2-3 layers of clear finger nail polish over the label for extra protection.

Paul that's a great idea! Now where is that fingernail polish when you need it!
Chris - yes please do give me the number! I couldn't locate it so ordered clear with black ink (which over the clear label markers works just fine, but yours really do stand out!!)

goldfinch- how long do the labels last? I know they also make special tape tor outdoors, but maybe it isn't necessary. The link seems to indicate that it is "regular"

My TZ outdoor tape has been out in the garden for 4 years.
This one is 4 years old now.

Hi Anna, I've had mine outside for 5 years and they're still good as new. The tape I linked to above is laminated for indoor/outdoor use. It works great!

Good to know. I love all the pictures. Wish I had better success. Seems I just can't get the soil mix right. Either drains too fast or stays too moist. Of course if I took better notes, I would know what to change

These are what my labels look like. These have evolved using tips from several of the forums on this site. I read the daylily forum much of the time and those people can label. :greengrin:
I buy my zinc labels from the lily auction. They run about 40.00 per 100.
Then I use the handy brother P-touch. Mine is a PT-2730. The tape is 34 inch white with Black print. TZe-241
Then I spray the markers with rust-oleum crystal clear enamel.
Here's a few pictures.

The finished product. The metal spikes are a bit long but I will cut them down

The spray paint I use. I have had these on some of my daylilies for a year or so and they are just as nice as the day I made them.

Hope this helps and my 2 cents. Love Chris's clear plastic ones but I wanted bigger so I don't have to squat or get classes to read.
