What a great writing contest! Thank you so much to the writers and to those of you who voted.

THE WINNERS ARE:

FIRST PLACE 150 ACORNS: FREE BIRD by Blue23Rose (Vickie)

SECOND PLACE 100 ACORNS: DOWN HOME FOR THANKSGIVING by Dayjillymo (Jill)

THIRD PLACE 50 ACORNS: GHOULISH GREETINGS by floota (Julie)

We thought it was interesting that the winners included three different holidays as well as three totally different types of stories: a history lesson, down home humor, and a horror comedy. Great writing, ladies, and congratulations!

Your acorns are from the three of us equally, daylily, Char and me, though your acorn message will come from me. I'm sure you will soon use them wisely. Smiling

And on our story thread, Juli will have the name of the writer included with each story:

The thread "Daylily Tales - The STORIES - 2013" in Daylilies forum

Thank you again, you all made our first Daylily Tales contest an enjoyable event!

Likewise, thanks to all who voted for all of the stories. They were all enjoyable and fun. As someone else mentioned, don't you wonder if hybridizers realize what some of their funny names can lead to? Guess my story showed my age too, as I was part of the "Rocky Horror" generation ! I'm hoping to post the story ( for Halloween) on my blog along with many of the corresponding daylily pictures.

Congrats! Congrats to the winners. I thought ALL the stories were really good and had a hard time deciding on who to vote for.

I am especially happy to see FREE BIRD win as that was my personal number one choice. Great job but great job by all!

I am a strong believer in the simple fact is that what matters in this life is how we treat others. I think that's what living is all about. Not what I've done in my life but how I've treated others. ~~ Sharon Brown

I thought it was lots of fun to write a story. My mind never comes up with any decent fiction so I based my story on a memory of a Christmas Past when I was about 16. The story is pure sillyness but my mom and I really did always have our Christmas dinner and presents on Christmas eve and really did go to wonderful Christmas party on Christmas day at dear friends. But it was right here, not in Connecticut and there was no Song and Dance Troop! Hilarious! But there was guitar playing and singing of Christmas Carols and old classics and there really was hot spiced wine. Big Grin Thumbs up

Back "in the old days" when the AHS Robin allowed for posts that were "non- daylily" they used to have Halloween and Christmas story posts with daylily names, and I believe some clubs do them as games - so it was not an original idea or anything. However, it was fun, and I thought we could all use a pick me up after bloom season was over!

RIta, I never write fiction either - but I had fun writing up the example!

I hope this becomes an annual tradition. It was a LOT of fun and I bet people from the other forums here at ATP will join in as word spreads about the Daylily Stories contest. And everyone did such a great job.
