Well, it depends on where you live. If you live where it won't freeze , they could re bloom.

Tomatoes are perennial, but they will not survive freezing. I'm not sure how low of temperatures they can tolerate before they die. If given enough warmth and light they will survive over the winter.

If you do try to carry some old tomato roots over to spring, I would still urge you to try a few new seedlings by their side. Then you can compare their yield and quality.

Well thankyou very much, and I love in Vegas, and it hasn't even gotten cold yet. We had one week of cold and wind and it totaled my tomato. I'm also trying to figure out what vegetables are in season to plant right now..

Welcome to ATP! I agree Really, even if you could overwinter tomatoes, it is not a great idea to keep the same plants going indefinitely. Tomatoes are just so prone to fungal disease. Best way to deal with that is too pull your old plants including the roots and bag them for the trash. Don't even add them to your compost pile.

Then start new plants from seed or just buy seedlings.

P.S. If you have gardening neighbors and want them to owe you favors, start 3 times as many seeds as you will need. Keep the best seedlings for your garden.

Then offer to give away dozens of seedlings in 4" pots or 2 liter soda bottles with the tops cut off. Stretch out your potting mix by adding an equal volume of shredded pine bark (clean bark mulch or nuggets with anything over 1/4" or 1/2" screened out).

If your neighbors don't garden yet, plant extra plants and give away tomatoes and cut flowers. It's good to be appreciated, especially if your garden is not always tidy, or there's a fussy neighborhood association.
