What a great idea! This is something I definitely need to do this spring and it never occurred to me to just put empty pots over the existing plants. (smacking forehead here). Thank you!
Confidence is that feeling you have right before you do something really stupid.
Any day you wake up on the sunny side of the grass is a good day.

Brilliant!

Thanks everyone, for the great comments, and acorn tips. I am so glad all of you like the idea. I cannot claim it as my idea, I saw it in a magazine a long time ago.

Thank you Liz and Marilyn
@Marilyn, I have been using the wood mulch for years and my Hostas do great. I'm glad you like my garden ornaments, the birds love that fountain. Thank you for the tip.

Marilyn - I dunno about hostas, as I always mulch mine. But I know that you're not supposed to mulch irises 'cuz it can & will cause rot (holds too much moisture).
Rick - You have that much snow right now? Didn't think you got that much in your zone.
Margaret - GREAT idea... but won't work for me as I have too many roses that are too big. LOLL.. but should have thought of this years ago!! I kinda do the opposite.. put buckets around small delicate plants and FILL with mulch to protect from the extreme cold.
