What a great idea! This is something I definitely need to do this spring and it never occurred to me to just put empty pots over the existing plants. (smacking forehead here). Thank you!

I'm guessing that you'll get a record number of acorns in the first few days!

Very timely tip, at least for where I live. Where the snow is three feet deep, people are probably WISHING they could be out mulching their beds!

Marilyn - I dunno about hostas, as I always mulch mine. But I know that you're not supposed to mulch irises 'cuz it can & will cause rot (holds too much moisture).

Rick - You have that much snow right now? Didn't think you got that much in your zone.

Margaret - GREAT idea... but won't work for me as I have too many roses that are too big. LOLL.. but should have thought of this years ago!! I kinda do the opposite.. put buckets around small delicate plants and FILL with mulch to protect from the extreme cold.
