i could not find the footage, but i confirmed that the bed is shaded from hot afternoon sun by a large tree - so am convinced that the yellow border is not sun-bleached , but by design.
quite by accident, while i was searching for smth else i came upon this variety: stained glass series by Dummen (?) - 'raspberry tart'. it has exactly darker burgundy blotches on bright pink middle like mine. absolutely no green and a wide yellowish border. while even in our DB most pics of bethwick's show green spots and large dark burgundy area.
here's two links for nurseries that had it:

what do you think of that?
and while i was doing all this i found a fantastic local nursery in NJ - growing over 200 varieties of coleus, less then 1 hour from me by car: atlock farms.
there was an article about it in washington post even!
http://www.washingtonpost.com/... article about atlock farms.
it's a bit old, so i'll need to verify that they are still there, but i am hoping to visit even this fall, may be next week or two. if so - i'll be sure to post a report.
