It occurred to me while I was googling for local Master Gardener plant sales as well as other Plant shows/sales that a calender where members could post the dates for the same would be nice. If it was done in the regional threads it would keep it from getting to crazy. Like I wouldn't get all excited about a show/sale only to find out it was in Northern Oregon !
Is this something Admin would have to set up or can anyone start one in their regional area ?

I think thats a great idea! There currently is no where that we members can post regional events of interest. I even have one to post, but no where to post it. Just putting it in the Texas forum wont work, as members would have to look through the whole thing each week or so.
Hmmmmm @dave?

I don't know how that would work, but I did miss two plant sales last year I wanted to attend. So if it could be worked out some way I would be for it.

Make a thread for events/shows/etc. sticky? that way you'd only have to check one thread instead of the whole forum.

I was thinking that it could be a sticky at they top of the Regional Forum. Then if someone knows of an event they can post it. I think admin has to make it a sticky. Once the date for an event has passed it could be marked "Done" like the plant trading and classifieds forum.

I think a dedicate calendar would actually be quite useful. It just would take some time to program such a feature for ATP.

Maybe it's just me, but I lost some of my enthusiasm for sticky threads when four stickies took up the whole first page of threads in a favorite forum.

But I realize that may still be desirable for infrequent visitors to that forum. And it grows the site more if new visitors see great things right in their faces as soon as they hit a forum. It's easy enough for me to "Page Down" even if I hit that forum several times per day.

Yeah I could see if you went to a forum and the whole first page was sticky's that might be frustrating.
I was just thinking that if there was one in each Regional Gardening Forum, local members who would have knowledge of events could post them. If there was a moderator then after the date had passed they could be marked as "Done". I think one big calender for the whole site would get frustrating, since you'd have to wade thru dates for events that weren't in your area.

I would be interested in finding out if there were any garden events; nurseries opened to the public for special events or classes. We have a few things that take place on a fairly regular basis and I would be happy to post them.

@texaskitty111 Post your event in the Texas forum for the time being. After the event is over, we could move it to the Sandbox.

Dave I really like this idea. I know in my area there are quite a few spectacular plant events coming up. It would be great to have a calendar to post them to.

karmatree,
I don't think anything has been set up for posting local gardening events yet. I think it was just a suggestion and Dave agreed to give it some thought and try to work out some type of Calendar to post the events to.
Who is Selby? where is the sale? at what time? Those would be the types of information that would need to be posted to be effective. So you can see how that might get complicated for thousands of forum members, but I think Dave is the one who might be able to figure out something.
But you are right, it is a great idea and it will take people like you who are willing to post to bring the idea to life.

Larry that's why I suggested it be in the Regional forums. That way someone in Maine wouldn't be get all excited about an event only to find out it was in Florida.

Wow, that is great, but it made me realize that it would indeed be hard to fit all that in a little calendar space. Links would work, but for small events or individuals there will probably not be any links.

@karmatree Kate, Thanks so much for sharing this ... I copied and pasted the info you supplied over on the Florida gardening forum. I sure wish I could make it over to Sarasota for this event; Selby Gardens is a wonderful place to visit!
