I don't ever see this fern in any stores or nurseries anywhere, but maybe I am just looking in the wrong spot. I thought I would share this beauty with you all. I see that it is listed as an evergreen, does it stay just a little green or does all its foliage stay green all year long?

Wow, great growing Suga ... that really is a beautiful fern! Petticoat Fern (Nephrolepis exaltata 'Petticoat' wasn't listed in the database so I've submitted a proposal for the entry and your photo can be moved over once it's been approved.

Thank everyone I didn't write that it was an ever green, that's what the database said, and yes I did add it. For me, if I leave it outside it will die back, but as long as I cover it up good with pine straw it will come back. But I always dig up several good size pieces, that stay green all winter inside, just to make sure I don't loose it......just in case.

I would like to buy a couple of the Petticoat Ferns for my wife for Christmas. Any idea where they can be procured??

They do appear to be hard to find. I did quite a bit of looking in an attempt to help Dahinat, but I could not find a source. Has anyone else had any luck?

I live in Bishopville sc. I get them at the farmers market in Florence. Check with a local nursery, they might be able to order the plugs for you to begin your own.

I was able to get a cutting for the turkey tail (petticoat) fern a couple of years ago. It has grown this year, but not to the extent yours seems to be growing. Do you have a secret for your success?

Can you possibly sell me a start suga? I had to leave mine with a friend when service members husband and family had to move. Nursery I got it at closed and I have been searching 20+ years. These are listed as rare. I am reaching out to suga again to possibly purchase a piece of your fern if you have the time. What are you doing to make it look so good? I have 4 . they are slow growing and fragile.

I use miracle grow for one and also osmocoat (I may have spelled that wrong lol) but one thing my ferns respond well to is Epsom salt. I usually just sprinkle it on them then water it in. Also as far as a planting medium I add about three bags of the special orchid bark blend generally to one large ( 2 cubic foot) bag of a good potting mix. This keeps the ferns well drained and happy. Here in SC during the summer I let them hang out under the trees and they do really well for me. I hope this helps
