This is the second year I have had this fern and I was beginning to think it did not live through the winter, but now it is showing new growth.
Lady Fern:

Unknown: Does anyone know what this fern might be, it multiplies rapidly, can take sun or shade loves boggy areas or well draining areas.



My poor Radiance fern is looking awful, I am thinking this is just a stage it is going through before putting on new growth.


On the other hand my Brilliance fern is looking very good with new growth:


This fern was just named Autumn Fern when I purchased it: It has really grown in three years. Look at the new growth on it this year.

I'm not very good at identifying plants but the one in your second set of photos may be Netted Chain Fern (Woodwardia areolata) which is an Alabama native. I just planted Lady Ferns last year and was getting discouraged that I'm not seeing signs of growth. If yours are just now starting to show in your much warmer zone, I don't feel quite as concerned!

This is a native fern here in Alabama, grows like crazy down by the branch. Is this the veining or netting it gets it's name from? If so I think I have a name for my unknown fern, thank you.

Well I have decided from the photos it is Netted Chain Fern (Woodwardia areolata), and it grows all up and down the east coast naturally, so temperature I don't think would be a problem. It seems to love bogs and wetlands, but I don't know if if would become invasive or not grow at all in Washington.

Just wondering because I have a shady, damp area on the north side of the house that could use SOMETHING.

That is not Woodwardia areolata. It could possibly be Woodwardia virginica.

No, don't think it is Woodwardia virginica, if the comment in the database is correct that it fronds start out bronze then turn green, these appear to be green from the get go.

Sori appear to be wrong for W. virginica also. Woodwardia areolata fronds are only divided once. The fronds on yours are divided twice.

How about Southern Wood Fern? No, don't think its that.

Larry is this fern from the wild or bought? If it's wild, what was the location?

Out of my back yard,(Coffee County, Alabama) in a very wet boggy location by a stream but about six feet or so above the level of the water on the bank, gets a lot of sun but some shade also.
This is a photo of the ferns present location, they were like this in my yard, but I turned it into a garden. This is the vacant lot next door.
