Last year I grew 2 varieties of ornamental pepper.

One had green leaves with splashes of white, white flowers, and white fruit that turned orange then red. The other had purplish green leaves, purple flowers, and purple fruit that turned red.

I carefully (because the flowers were so tiny and delicate) removed the anthers from the white flower (seed parent), and used pollen from the purple flower (pollen parent). The pollination took and I had my seeds saved, no knowing what will happen.

This year I planted the seed and they grew, and here is the shocking result!

I got leaves that are green, white, with purple tints, flowers that are variegated (white with purple stripes), fruit that is striped, starting out green with purple stripes and turning purple and waiting to see if they tun red. And vigour, lots of peppers and the flowers are tougher they set fruit in high heat where the parents did not.

My goal next is to pollinate green bell pepper with pollen from my hybrids, and i've already begun that! Here is my creation from last year.

The original names are Shu pepper and Purple Flash, I'm not going to name because technically it's not finished. However if I get enough seeds which is likely I'll be giving some away on here.

Ok, so you saw how the pepper starts out green striped, then turns purple? Well, next it becomes light purple, than orangish pink, then yellowish, then orange, and probably red is soon to come. Awesome amount of color change on this! Thumbs up

Wow. great photos! Hurray! Thank You!
I wonder how long it takes for the complete color change?
Do you think the peppers will be edible? I'd be too chicken to try in case they might be really hot. Sad

Someone tried one and said they are very hot. I don't like spicy foods so I won't even try one, just for looks here. Smiling

I don't eat hot peppers very often but someone told me that ornamental peppers are edible but might be way too hot for the normal person. I'm happy to just look at your Hybrid Pepper. Great photos. I hope you save seeds and grow them out next year to see if any changes happen. Thumbs up

Here is a photo of the offspring from this plant I pollinated with bell pepper. It looks ordinary right now you would never expect the colorful plant above was its Mom, I cant wait to see the flowers and peppers!

My peppers are flowering! Here's a breakdown of traits they inherited.

Plant size- slightly larger than ornamental hot pepper but smaller than bell pepper.

Leaf color- bell pepper

Stem color- striped, like ornamental pepper.

Flower color- white with purple like ornamental pepper

Flower points- 5 and 6 varying, 5 is from ornamental pepper 6 is from bell pepper.

Can't wait to see the final stage, peppers!
