I see so many every time we go out driving anywhere? I have never had one volunteer, which is surprising. Has anyone ever grown one?

I tried. I planted some seeds this spring. They came up, but didn't do well and died. I still have a bunch of seeds left, so I'll probably try again next spring. I read that they are invasive, but I've seen them growing on pasture fences for years and never anywhere else. I really like them all bearded out.

I don't believe so. The old man's beard must have very insignificant flowers, I never see them for such large fluffy seed heads I should probably google them, LOL

Old Man's Beard is Clematis drummondii, Sweet Autumn is Clematis terniflora. They look almost identical and could be easily confused unless you walked up close to inspect them. C. drummondii is a native plant and C. terniflora in an exotic that is considered invasive.
