Has anyone had one? Suffered any side effects? Doc suggested hubby and I both get one together since it is a live vaccine.

I had it year before last. No side effects that I remember.

I also got the shot with zero side effects. My DH had shingles on his leg causing him not to be able to walk without a walker for a long time. He can walk now but his leg will never be that same because of the shingles per a neurologist and he always has pain. We tell everyone make sure you get you shingles vacination the alternative can be a nightmare.

Thanks, All. We're making the appointment today! Yeah. I once heard shingles decribed as feeling like you're being boiled then deep fried afterwards.shiver! Mom had it near her right eye. They thought she would go blind if it traveled there. She always had the scar. Oddest thing how she got it. Dad got Chickenpox at age 66 after a bout of pneumonia. Not pretty! .Mom stressed over his care. Either one gave her shingles.

Our quadraplegic friend got the vaccine, and contracted shingles from it. Perhaps because his immune system is already so severely compromised? He was very resistant to it, but his docs insisted. As a side note: a paralyzed person is unable to move muscles, but often still feels pain.

I have not had the vaccine.

We had ours, with no bad side effects. We were surprised that Medicare and our supplement wouldn't pay for it, so it was a few hundred to pay out of pocket for each one. It's still a small price to avoid having Shingles. That's no fun at all.

DH and I both have had ours several years ago. Our daughter-in-law had shingles a few months ago and we really wish our son would get a shot -- he doesn't believe in them, but he is 55 years old and doesn't take our advice any more! Hope his wife can convince him.

Our supplement paid for it all. We have a very good supplement. I'm sure glad we found this particular insurance man and went with him.

We did it. DH added a flu shot. Insurance paid for it all. That shocked me since they never seem to pay for anything anymore! Side affect is a headache. I have headache. His is 6' ft 1" tall. Here was our conversation at Walgreens:

Sitting and waiting at Walgreen's for our vaccinations. DH talks loudly and I ask him to lower his voice:
DH: This is how I always talk!
ME: (whipsering) Well, you're too loud. Lower your voice, please.
DH: Is this better? (in a real deep voice) I have a low voice already, I can't go any lower.
I give him an incredulous look
ME: Really? Maybe try whispering??
DH: Oh. Oh yeah.
He was dead serious!

It is very important to get the shingles vaccine when your immune system is strong. My DH's immune system is no longer strong, his oncologist at Mayo Clinic said that he can not have a shingles vaccine injection. Therefore for the rest of his life he will be taking medication to help prevent shingles. My DH refused to get his shingles vaccine when he was healthy and is sorry every day because of the damage shingles did to his leg and the constant pain, now he tells me I should have listened to you.

Excellent point. Im pretty sure its right around the corner. I really want it, and now that you dont need an RX, I feel it would be the smart thing to do. Especially with this pacemaker. Dont want to stress the ticker.

My doc wanted both of us to get the shingles vaccine together. I asked at Walgreens if we were contagious. He said getting shingles from the vaccine or transmission to another person from the vaccine is so very are that our doctor was just being over cautious. I appreciate that.

I did the responsible thing and did my research about the vaccine and asked on here for the best answers of course. I feel it is a safe vaccine and MUCH better than the alternative.

P.S. Except for the 6'1" headache, I have zero side effects.

I received the Shingles vaccine, no side effects I am immune compromised. Would ask dr first if you have issues.
