Where do you buy your containers from? Do you prefer glass or plastic?

I buy my containers based on what I want to do with my plants. If I want to showcase my plantings, I buy pots that are decorative ceramics with textured surfaces and decorative colors.
If I want functional pots to just grow my plants, I go with plastic as they look very minimalistic, are lighter in weight (so easier to move around) and less expensive.

For growing purpose, I order nursery plastic pots on the internet. For showcasing purposes, I go to plant nurseries, craft shows, garden centers at big box stores, etc.

Thanks, I usually buy mine from Walmart and the dollar store for very few bucks, but I saw some giant glass ones and it got me thinking what do others prefer

I buy mine wherever I find them for cheap. I haaaaate paying full price for a pot other than nursery pots (which are super cheap and disposable on purpose).

I have even been known to paint old trash cans and food containers to make a cute flower pot.

Another good source for special plant containers is garage sales/moving sales and estate sales. You can find some very special items if you don't mind the time spent going to these sales.

True, but our dollar store doesnt have much stuff to get creative with. They just have those fluffy little balls for arts and crafts and ugly fake flowers, but not much else. But, I bought a 15 gallon pot today from walmart (all black and plastic) for $5 Smiling

The tools you use make up a very small portion of creativity. The rest is you. Even people in prison with extremely limited tools of expression can create masterful pieces of art. It's the same concept. Don't let yourself be limited by resources.

I get a lot of pots from good will. I do think out of the box though. I have found some really pretty tissue box covers that make great pots for small succulent plants for bigger plants the bathroom trash cans, ice buckets.

If you want to decorate with dollar store stuff they all have twine and glue. They have decorative marbles and stones. They can be glued too your pot with outdoor caulking in the tool area.

Lol it's ok the trashcans at our dollar store arent pretty and they don't sell ice buckets there either. Im sure i'll figure out some way to get creative with decorating the display ones. My S.O. actually just surprised me tonight after work. He stopped by the store and picked me up an all black 10gallon pot. He said the store was sold out of every other kind of pots, but managed to bring me home that one. This is one of the sweetest gifts from him Lovey dubby

Don't over look styrofoam packing. Save our landfill. If you can icing a cake you can do this.
https://garden.org/ideas/view/...

Do not need to be this fancy. Get the dollar store rocks and dollar store outdoor caulking if you do not have a caulking gun they sell those but you can cut the tube open get a plastic knife and spread the caulking on your stro. Spread your gravel out on a garbage bag and roll your caulking covered styro pot over the gravel.

You will get a free gallon size pot with dollar store decor for less than five dollars. Time: half hour. So it does not take a lot of time either.

We have lots of styrofoam in our house. We dont throw the boxes out on appliances or electronics so when we move we can use the orignal box to put the things back in them. Also our city dump is strict on seperating recycables. They wont take the trash if you havent seperated it. There is a blue dumpster for recycables and a white one for trash. And, we collect cans and bottles. I already use some of the old bottles i have for some plants. Also our dollar store doesnt give you anything free no matter how much you buy of anything and they have squeezable caulking tubes. Ive had to get them before when out sink faucet needed repairing

This is a really simple succulent dish that I made from a margarine container, paint, and a sharpie (using the NM flag as loose inspiration).

Thumb of 2017-02-15/Jai_Ganesha/59960e

It is not especially formal or professional-looking, but neither are the succulents in it so that's OK.
