As a comment about Rose (Rosa 'Blue Skies'), zuzu wrote:

The beautiful blooms of this Buck rose start out as almost blue buds, which open into mauve blossoms with a hint of blue, gradually fading to lavender and, finally, to a lovely shell pink with hints of gray. The rose is highly fragrant and is more resistant to black spot than most of the other Buck roses in my zone 9 garden.

Hmm,..mine has no fragrance yet. I received mine as a own root from Heirloom Roses. I have read that sometimes the genetics for fragrance are lost when cloning. Where did you receive your plant?

Tom, the genetics for fragrance are not lost due to cloning. That's just one of those rose myths that never die. Fragrance is a recessive gene and cloning the rose does not change the genetic make up of the rose.

There are a lot of variables that do impact how we experience fragrance in a rose. Some roses only release fragrance early in the morning. Others will only release fragrance in humid conditions. Others will release fragrance only when ambient temperatures reach a certain degree. Those are just some of the variables ... Smiling

Then some of us have more sensitive noses than others and can detect fragrance quite easily. The rest of us can't smell a thing ... Smiling
I'd rather weed than dust ... the weeds stay gone longer.

I've had mine for years, so I don't remember where I bought it, but it's grafted, so I know it didn't come from an own-root nursery. It probably came from Pickering or Hortico.
