I found a little clematis at Walmart about 4 years ago. It has grown into a beautiful vine! It was tagged as "Sieboldii". It is definitely not a Florida Sieboldii, which is all I can find online. What could it be? thanks! I'm so happy I found this forum!

Hi Sierra mom!
Welcome! I am not a clematis expert especially living in the South. But I am game to take a guess for now " Rosemoor." Maybe some one else will have a better idea. It is a beautiful clematis that you have. I understand why you would like to know its name.
May joy surround you!

Thanks so much for your reply! I looked up Rosemoor and it very beautiful! It is very similar in size and form but my mystery clematis is more purple. My though was just Jackmanii. I will enjoy it! Happy Spring! Hurray!

How close to the actual color is the picture? I had Royal Velvet and lost it ( moles ). A deep rich purple grown mostly in the shade and `bout 8` tall. A favorite so of course.......
The data base has three pic`s only the middle plt pic looks dark enough to be the one I had. I have a plt now that is getting ready to bloom that also looks similar to yours, maybe Crossing Fingers! Just can't think of the name right now,

@Tisha, Royal Velvet has reddish purple anthers, the image above does not.
Additional Royal Velvet photos:

I removed that darker Royal Velvet image that came from Joy Creek nursery as it was an inaccurate color example and is no longer listed on their site.

@Calif_Sue Thank-you for the info. Glad that we all help each other. So many plts. it`s confusing sometimes. The color of my Rosemore and Niobe are more shades of red than blue or purple. I must have a lot of mis-labeled plants. I received three roses that are not what they are labeled. This is the most disappointing part of gardening for me.
Have no idea what to do with the roses I know someone else would love to have.
Sorry.
@SierraMom you have a beautiful clematis. Lovey dubby

I'm fortunate to have lots of nurseries around me so I try to purchase most of my plants in bloom. It can be a problem with mail order and then you have to often wait a while before you even see a bloom.

Thanks everyone for all the responses! It's like a port wine purple and exploding with blooms! It could be Niobe, the photo is very true to color. It's like a port wine purplish color! Smiling

Remember that it is very, VERY hard to accurately capture the true colors of clematis in photos. Don't believe most of the photos you see so far as the coloration goes.

I also think Niobe is a possibility. But what size are the blooms? Can you measure them?

Could be Niobe but one thing I detected with the other images, the anthers are described as yellow but you can see a bit of lavender at the base. I can't tell from your photos if yours has the same.
Some show it deeper coloring than others, probably due to weather or culture onditions.

My guess has already been mentioned by SierraMom. I would "bet the farm" on it being "Jackmanii or Jackmanii Supbra". It definitely is not the polish suggestion, "General Sikorski", two many petals, as for one of Sue's suggestion, respectfully, not "red enough" to be "Niobe". I have three, and I don't think I will live long enough to see same ever grow that big. LOL. I must have over forty Jackmanii, climbing through my roses, climbing up live and dead trees and fences, etc. Will post some pictures in near future.

PS. A picture of "Mrs. N. Thompson" clematis. Really quite stunning! Who ever thought that red an blue on the same plant could be pretty? Cheers!

I think the name of your clematis is Warsaw Nike. It is quite popular. Loads of blooms, close to Niobe but more plum/ purple in color. And I saw it bare root at local Lowes ( that means they can be sold at Walmart). I never saw any Evison's clematises at Walmart , so Rosemoor is very unlikly.
