I have a mystery squash that snuck in through a pack of watermelon seeds from Baker Creek. Full vine and seeds are size of watermelon seed. I know I am getting old, but I planted this thing along with watermelon seed. I checked Baker Creek's offering . The closest matches to at this moment are Iran and Lady Godiva. Anyone growing winter squash and can identify this one.

At the stage its at, it could be either one. I got some of both seeds, from Bakers. Lady Godiva is a winter squash, that they call a shell-less pumpkin seed, lesser results, if it gets crossed with a regular squash or pumpkin. Its gonna be fun to see. Oh 😮 !!! Dang.... I better get mine in ground, before i have to wait untill next year. Yikes 😬😬😬!

I grew Lady Godiva last year and the pumpkins were "taller" right from the beginning, not the flattened shape this one appears to have.

Anyone grow Tatume squash? I just received my seeds today, from Baker Creek. I've been enjoying the Zucchinis I've managed to get, but, the three plants are evidencing SVB damage, so, it's time to pull them.

I want to plant the Tatume in the same fabric SmartPots. Anything I need to know before I do? Like, might there be SVB eggs in that soil and, if so, what should I do before planting again?

SVB lay eggs at base of plant, there could also be some larva in roots that broke off, i imagine.
I'd change soil.

Hello! My husband, in his wonderful effort to help and weedwack weeds, accidentally wacked one of my growing squash There's still a bit of green. Will it grow back or should I plant new seeds?

Could you be a bit more specific about how much "green" is left? A photo would be very helpful here. It would also help to have a general idea of where (what part of the country/world) the plant is growing.

Your plant looks to me like it might regrow -- but, to be on the safe side, I would definitely start a few more seeds.

Autumn Delight. Hey I know it is a long way from Autumn, but I have to beat the pickle worms to the punch if I want any squash.

Let's not start talking about autumn yet -- I'm still waiting for summer!

How do you tell when winter squash are ripe this time of year? (I just wait until mine are about to get frozen, then I bring them in... )

Hard rind dry stem.Vines die when heat and SVB combine. I will do a late planting in August hoping the pickles worms go south early.

Update on the NOID. It is a mini-pumpkin, variety still unknown.



Prolific. sets these little fruits about every 12 inches on the vine and the vines cover a 20 foot diameter circle.

True , even crabgrass is edible. Today however, I have access to lots of things that taste much better. These will be strictly ornamentals for this year with no repeats. Hopefully survival training remains in my distant past.
