Those native plants...I love them! And finally we have enough little baby plants waiting until it's time to bloom next year! It's raining again.

Yes, Texas does have wonderful native plants and I am sure other states have them too, we just need more dedicated people to get out there and point them out.
It seems that Texas has a good number of those, and that is a good thing.

Linda, that patch of Fawn Lilies is growing under my apple trees. I don't mow that area until all the foliage had died back. I moved a few to the woodland to see if they would like it there. They actually grow much bigger in the woodland.

Lynn, we have a similar lily around here called a Trout lily, and they look very similar to the ones in your picture.
I wonder if they might be related?
Trout lilies take 7 years from seed to bloom and they die after that, so they are very special indeed Smiling

The Fawn Lily doesn't die after blooming. I haven't found any information saying they die after blooming? Do you have a link that talks about it?
I know the foliage dies back after blooming, like many of our spring blooming bulbs do. : )

There are a number of different species of Erythronium: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E...
How fascinating. I love the pink one they show in the wikipedia link.

Hurray! I didn't know that about the ants, thanks Josephine for that info. Come next spring when mine are in bloom, you will find me laying on my tummy with my camera, trying to get a photo of the ants pollinating the blooms. Whistling
