Look what my Firecracker is doing, going variegated. It's a bright green edge.

Julia, that looks like it might be stressed?
I know that 'Wildfire' is a sport from 'Firecracker', and that 'Wildfire' can revert back to the same coloring as 'Firecracker'.
Keep an eye on it to see what it does when it is feeling better. I love this one and it's sport version. Right now both are doing very well for me. I have them in 1/2 day sun.

It looks like something has been munching on it? The grasshoppers have started up here. So far I have only found them in the beds that are in full/all day sun. So far I have killed about 10, they are still small so must have hatched recently.

It does look like it has been a snack for something. My guess slugs when I'm looking for watermarks tonight I'll put out bait.

Since the drought set in I haven't seen any signs of slugs. Hurray!
Now it's the grasshoppers I have to worry about.

I purchased one today at Lowes and it is just dark green. It seems that this time of year it would be purple and not dark green.

They just got them in today. It is their fall planter order I guess because they replaced the tropical plant area that they have moved over to their 50% off area. I wonder where these were grown all summer not to have the dark purple color.

Cinta can you show us a photo? I have never seen it green.

Julia, how is your doing now? Mine is looking more like your above photo with all the high temps and drought.

Okay I will get a pic for you.
I planted half in the garden in full sun to test animal resistance and half in a pot.

The tag says Firecracker and the pic is red. I think as sad as it looks is they probably grew plugs up fast in the greenhouse and rushed them to market. This is usually the time of year I see a lot of sedum at Lowes.

Wow, that really looks like it was sun deprived and to much fertilizer. I've had mine for 2 years and have never fertilized it. It is nice and short and dense. You can see that it wants to go dark colored.
Thank you for posting the photo Cinta. Smiling

Yes I bet they put those plugs in gallon pots in April went to work on them with fert and no sun. They were aiming for size not color.

I passed them up and did not see them until I was heading to the register. They were dull and did not look like anything the tag sticking up caught my eye.

Okay I will be sure to give updates. It is a shame because someone that does not know that the plant will look like the pic with the proper care will not purchase. They will probably have them on the sale table by the end of the month for 1.00 because they did not sell.
