Since the thread seems a bit slow, I thought I would throw in a few Mallard images from last Friday:

Well, all appears to have been quiet on this thread for almost a day, so I'll throw in some Heron (Danny to be specific) images from the 1 November Little Lehigh stroll. First, there are some stoic on the stream bank posing images:

After better than a half hour of unexciting inactivity, our bird stuck out his tongue (a Bronx cheer?)
and finally entered the stream and posed for some almost good reflection images:

While wandering around in the stream, Danny suddenly plunged into the water and came up with a small Brown Trout and some stream greenery. I have (again due to the number of mages) put the sequence into a Dropbox file which can be accessed with the following link:

After ingesting his catch, our feathered friend next took a short flight downstream:


After landing, Danny strode onto the far bank and planted himself there:


After a protracted period of no further bird motion, I headed home for my own afternoon snack.

I love those cardinals you have in the United States. Too different from our also lovely cardinals (paroaria coronata)

My apologies, I should invest in a camera other than the one on my cellphone.

Someone else isn't enjoying the weather. This is not only a new visitor, but one I've never seen before (I've only ever seen red-tailed hawks).

Red-shouldered hawk

A very early snow hit the Atlanta area yesterday and this morning. Brought the birds to the suet and peanut butter.

Finally got a similar picture of a Downey and a Hairy for comparison!



The Bluebirds are taking over the suet.





But they do share sometimes.





Other birds around the suet and BOSS feeders.

Becky these photographs are the best! Great to see differing bird types seemingly giving each other a share of the token you offer. We are honoured to have nature's bounty on our doorstep. Keep up the good work with food to keep them warm.

When they need, the birds do tolerate each other. Pretty much the difference between north and south in this country. In the south, there is seldom the need to cooperate, in the north things are tougher, and there is much more cooperation between species....

A lot of the snow has melted, but there is still a lot out there. The house and gold finches have almost emptied the BOSS feeder! I saw 3 brownheaded nuthatches at the peanutbutter at one time, but no camera.

the cold weather finally got to central florida...a tit mouse visited the feeder today!

Those guys are crazy fast, and they aren't still for long. Good job!!

As all of us on the East Coast recall, the weather forecasters were prognosticating a rather snowy Saturday. So, even though the temperatures were in the mid thirties with solid overcast Friday, I grabbed my gear and headed for the Parkway. It started off slowly ( no hawk in the typical area), but early on I did spot a feathered friend I hadn't seen for some time, a Merganser Drake:
Accompanied by an echelon formation of four hens
Of course, there were the usual Mallards:
Plus a few feeding American Black Ducks:
Despite the conditions, it was turning out to be a good day. Then it got better. Although they were playing hard to get, I did get some songbird images. First some cardinals in the bushes:

Then, a Bluejay high up in a tree:

And finally, up near the Indian Museum, what I believe is a Yellow Crowned Sparrow:
Apparently, these birds had not been checking the weather forecasts!
