We are entering the Xmas season with the blooming of Amaryllis. Lets see your new blooms.

Cayenne, a Hadeco cultivar from Amaryllis Bulb Company. Emeryllis. com describes the color as Brick Orange. I think the color looks like a red pepper, so Cayenne is a good name for this. Both scapes bloomed at once, a very dramatic presentation. Flowers became showier as they aged. As is typical with the bulbs from Hadeco, it bloomed quickly, in under 3 weeks. Cayeene was a very nice start to this winter's blooms.

Double Circus from Royal Colors. This double is a pretty cherry red. The narrow petals come to a point, similar to a cultivar like Splash. As the bloom ages, the petals curve back, which softens its appearance. I hope that you can see what I mean in the second photo. The center bloom opened today, the bloom on the right is a week old. Most of the petals have a white or a paler "vein". I noticed that a lot of the red doubles have the inconsistent white markings.

Picasso from Royal Colors. A beautiful mid-sized white with a green throat, dark pink picatee edge and eye. The pink speckles add to its charm. Three scapes with 5 blooms each. It would be interesting to learn whether or not Picasso is a relative of Picotee, which is similar but lacks the speckling.

Magic Touch from White Flower Farms. These raspberry-red blooms are huge. The blooms have a white edge, green throat with a dark pink eye. 2 out of the 3 scapes bloomed at once, making a very impressive show.

Akiko from White Flower Farms. A pure white double with pale green throat. It had a fused double flower, which always adds interest (seen in lower photo).

Fledermaus from Royal Colors. Unique shape. The base color is pale green with a lovely dark pink webbing, speckles, and thin picotee edge.

Horizon from White Flower Farm. A huge, coral bloom. Some of the blooms have some white defects (lines) Overall, very nice.

Winter Delight from Royal Colors. A huge and showy white bloom with pink and dark pink markings and a dark pink eye. This is spectacular.

Maybelle from White Flower Farm. A very pretty dark pink bloom with a dark green throat. The color combination is stunning. The petals curl back and show some ruffling as the flower ages.

Pleasure from White Flower Farms. This has a small flowered dark pink bloom. As is common with the smaller flowered cultivars, it has lots of pollen.

Provence from White Flower Farm. Large showy blooms, base color is pink, which is paler at the bottom of the flower. Has a lovely dark pink striping and a dark pink eye.

Mon Cherie from White Flower Farm. A smaller cherry red bloom.

Hi everyone, I've been admiring everyone's pretty blooms. So far I have a surprise St. Joseph's lily bloom. I got the bulbs last September from a local gardener. I planted them in containers except for one that she had accidentally sliced through. I dusted it with cinnamon, left it out for a month, and then planted it. I tried forcing them into dormancy by leaving them outside when we had light frost expected and withholding water, but when I brought them in, they refused to go dormant. To my surprise last week, a few produced scapes and the one that had been sliced through, bloomed yesterday to my surprise. The bloom is a little deformed and pale but I'm glad it bloomed for me.

Cameron, goes to show that Amaryllis are surprisingly tough, since the bulb that was accidentally cut, survived and bloomed.
