Peace and happiness for 2018 to everyone.

Wondered for just a short moment what would I kick off 2018 with here in Bird Photos forum. Fell back to one of my favourites, Eastern Yellow Robin.

At the end of the last installment in the December thread, we had left our intrepid Heron, Danny, wandering, without apparent purpose, around the Robin Hood Spring pool. However, as I tried to grab a reflection image, Danny had a different idea, and grabbed another muskrat!:

And that turned in to another two minute or so tussle, which incorporated dunkings, a land walkabout, reentry into the pool and more dunkings before Danny finally ingested another meal. As done previously, I have placed all of the images of the struggle in another Dropbox file which can be accessed with the following link:

Every now and then on my walks I will spot a robin, but they are playing hard to get. Finally got a reasonable image:

@marsover Enjoyed that Robin of yours Robert; they're a lovely bird; I love the Robin families. Signs are always interesting and great reference material when backing up a photograph at times.

I'm sorry terrible picture. Had to take a photo of my camera screen because computers broken. Wanted to share though that a Lawrence's Goldfinch has been coming to my thistle feeders for at least about five months now! It's just the lone one with about a million lesser goldfinches. I always hoped one would come because I think they're the prettiest bird and are supposed to be somewhat nomadic. Definitely a treat that he's come and STAYED so long!!!
He's a beautiful adult male.

I love Cardinals! They're actually starting to very slowly establish themselves here in San Diego because of escaped cage birds in Tijuana's pet trade.

Yesterday was mostly sunny, winds calm and temperatures in the mid twenties. Even so, it wasn't until I passed the Klein's Footbridge that there was significant duck activity. First, we have a Mallard hen and then a hen and drake pair:

Then a curled up Mallard drake (with a bit of a reflection image), plus a drake close up:

Next, there were two American Black Ducks and one of our Mallard Hybrid Drakes:

Finally, two Merganser drakes stopped by briefly:

@carlysuko what a treat Lawrence's Goldfinch came and visited for you to enjoy. All your Goldfinches look good to me.

@marsrover also enjoyed your beautiful waterbirds; lovely photos again.
