@joannakat thanks Joanna; will go back and add that one there.

Kurt had mentioned last month that anyone can do it - make the change-over, so I thought I'd jump in this time and try it. Hope that was o.k.

Carole, thanks so much for starting off the new month for bird photo's and WOW, what a way to begin February with those beautiful Rainbow Bee Eaters! Lovey dubby You sure have some gorgeous birds there in your part of the world!

Dadgumdaylilly, Welcome!
Love that shot of the Barred Owl! Thumbs up I remember the first time I ever heard the call of a Barred Owl, I couldn't figure out what in the world it was! I thought it must be an owl of some sort since it was coming from high in the trees so I googled for the different owls here in Florida and sure enough it was the sounds of Barred Owls. We had a heavily wooded lot at our old house and I used to hear them calling often at certain times of year.

Yesterday evening I was on the back porch and heard the calls of a Great Horned Owl and ran in to grab my camera (which only took a couple of seconds) but by the time I got back outside and stood listening ... nothing; total quiet. Dang!

I love the Cedar Waxwings but we only see those beauties briefly during February or March as (I guess) they are migrating back north? One year they were here early to mid April for some reason. I'll be on the lookout in hopes of getting to see a few this year!

The wax wings are early, even for us down here. We usually won't see them until Late February.

We love the barred owls and were so lucky to have some nesting babies in the back of our yard last year.

I'm sharing some Fairy Martins today; their quaint mud-nests and gathering to create them ...

(they differ from the Welcome Swallow because of the red extending on their head, just learnt that).

Beautiful and lovely! They resemble the barn swallows that we have out this way.
