I have plenty of snails here in the garden they are garden pests just like slugs. But only get afew frogs each summer. I really would LOVE to have more frogs. And toads. Don't know what I could do to get more toads.

My problem here is toad predators, especially snakes and some birds. Toads need a constantly wet area to reproduce, but you have ponds, right?

Maybe you could buy some at the pet store Rita.

I have ponds. I have two 35 gallons one of those is one of those patio ponds about 14 inches high and 30 around. It is made to be above ground but mine is not on the patio, it is in the shrubs that make a woodsey area along my south side fenceline. Then my other 35 gallon is inground about 12 inches deep and 3 feet around. I usually get a frog or two in that pond in the summer. Plus my "big" pond is a 350 gallon livestock stocktank. It is in ground and has rocks around it to make it look very natural in the garden. That is the one I have nicer fish in since the racoons can't get them. It gets a frog or two come summer also. But toads, I have a heavily mulched garden but no toads that I can see. Believe me if one could buy north american toads in the pet store, I would buy them.

Seriously Rita, check around the pet stores, kids like them as pets. My kids loved having toads as pets.

I have quite a number of little tree frogs and usually a couple of toads, but not as many of those as I think I should have. In a way, I hate luring them out of the woods if I think a predator is just going to get them. I don't have a pond but I need to work on something that is constantly wet. Our issue here is mosquitoes!! Big time. But there have been a lot more dragonflies in the yard the last year and I know they are heavy eaters of the mosquitoes. So I've got to encourage more of those as well.

I guess, I will look in the spring. I just can't figgure out why they don't just arrive here. The yard is heaven for them. If the frogs can get here from the pond in the woods about three blocks away, you would think that the toads could get here also.

I find that most of my toads stay relatively near the ground-hugging ivy and vincas growing under our yard trees; probably because they can dive back in there for protection, and it's almost always shady and damp under there. There are so many baby toads at certain times of the year that we delay mowing.....or mow very carefully! It's hard to gauge just which direction those tiny little guys are going to jump!

Tree frogs are wonderful! One year I had one staying in an ornamental resin birdhouse on our deck. Once it warmed up in the early afternoons he'd climb out and laze around on the tiny shelf, waiting for lunch to fly near. So cute!

I only saw once a little frog that seemed to stick on our glass sliding door, for awhile I thought it was a small leaf Had to holler at my hubby to come over and confirm that it is indeed a little frog..then the little one jumped away never to be seen again. But after that, after a few weeks, we heard a chorus of frogs croaking every night down the dry creek. So I guess that is where they went, enjoying the sporadic flow thru of spring rain over runs from the mountains

I do wish I can see one again..

Oh!!!! I like that so much Sharon!!! That is how it looked like on our glass sliding door then..only a much younger one! So what kind of frog was that you think..also a tree frog??

He was on the outside of our glass sliding door too. My cat, Daisy was inside watching him.

They are green and generally live in and around my plants that are in a soggy area in spring, roses, huechera, some iris and a few daylilies. They live on the leaves and are hidden by their green color. I don't know much about frogs or toads so I am not sure of his species. He doesn't live in trees, though.

They'll be here again pretty soon, when the spring rains start.

I just thought it is nice to see different froggies.. And they have such a colorful selection...interesting!

Then I guess mine is a green tree frog from the photo in the link. I've just never noticed them in trees, only my plants.
