I made a list of my extra early, and early plants when looking for scapes. Turned out several of the first plants to show scapes were actually registered as early midseason and midseason.

Last year I had no rebloom on 'Guy's Outrageous' from Floyd Cove (planted fall 2016), but late this winter it threw a scape which has been blooming for a few weeks. Most of the flowers have been half-openers, but today's wasn't bad.

The other large fan has a scape which is now around 24" tall with buds which are just now emerging from the bracts. It's visible behind the garden stake.

I'm jealous again...we had 5 to 6 inches of snow fall on the daylilies yesterday Angry . But it is melting already. Kind of wish it would have stayed because we are having some pretty cold nights to come yet.

It's so beautiful, Ken -- love love love GUY'S OUTRAGEOUS, and I'm jealous because I have no scapes on any of my plants except some newbies I just recently received. And just when we've been moving up to the 80's weather-wise we're about to dip back down again this weekend -- although we're supposed to get some of that elusive RAIN I've heard so much about, so I must stop complaining -- especially after reading your post, Sue! Guess I don't have it so bad after all...
Sighing!
Betty

Congrats on your first bloom, Larry!

I don't think my daylilies are even thinking about sending up scapes yet, lol! It is snowing in southern Indiana right now and the lows are still getting in the high 20's. Haven't seen snow in April for many years.

My first named cultivar to bloom this season is 'Femme Fatale'. I have been fighting the slugs and snails every morning but they sill seem to be able to do some damage as shown on this bloom.

Hurray! Hurray! Hurray! isn't there something with beer that takes care of the slugs?

Yes you can make traps using beer as an attractant, but here in my garden it would take a keg of beer. I just spray them with ammonia and water every morning when I go out looking for scapes and blooms.

Ginny, have you tried Deadline? I been using it for slugs and snails for several years now, and it really works -- and it's still effective after rains and watering for at least a month. And my 7 cats never have had a problem with those charcoal colored lines drawn around beds and little dabs of the stuff in pots, so everyone and everything seems to get along fine here.

So good to see the blooms.
We have been covering a few with buds to see if we can get them thru freezing temps. Looks like some are still ok after 23f temps last weekend, now forecast to freeze again this weekend.
I bought a bunch of slugs and snails last year. Found some daylilies from someone probably down around you Larry, that I really wanted, and when I unpacked they were loaded with snails and slugs. Confused Grumbling
They (snails and slugs) did not last very long in our drought and heat. Fortunately most of the plants are still here.

Ginny,
insect granules and specific grub control will get rid of them. I get a hand full of grubs with every shovel of dirt. The outside lights are swarmed by a million June bugs (adult grubs) I toss the grubs in a can when gardening and then dump them in the pond to let the fish assist with grub control.
