Oh my! It is 2018 swap time!

Am so happy to start this thread for our annual plant swap in Chicago and burbs area. We have done it for some years now and it has been tremendous fun!

For people who have been to the swap- same place same time. For newbies- we are borrowing church parking lot for Friday 25, May 2018, Memorial Day weekend. 4-7 pm -ish at UCE as in Evanston Unitarian Church.

Bring what you have to share and take what you like to grow.
Plants, seedlings, divisions, houseplants, perennials, bulbs, veggies, pots and garden items, books, seeds. Tables separated for annuals, sun, shade, veggies, garden items/books , small refreshment table provided.

Event is community oriented, no money involved. Newbies and seasoned gardeners welcome!
Do not worry if you have nothing to bring, we all started somewhere, bring a plate of cookies if you wish...

This pre-trading page is a part of general garden swap, there will be more peeps that do not pre-trade and just bring goodies to the swap.
For questions, suggestions, ideas please tree-mail me.

Things that work well last year, my impression- pre-trading area behind dumpster was good spot, we will keep it. Some concerns- if you ask for plants but can not make to the swap, please let someone know so we will move what was brought for you for the general area or we can work out something with you.

Event is rain or shine- last year was pretty rainy... well, plants love water and people will not melt, barring natural disaster, we will be there.

I will post my list of haves and wishes a bit later as I work on my garden...

P.S. if you new to this site, please be sure to add your zone when signing

Hey all!

I'm not sure I have anything to offer this year but on a balanced note, I don't have any requests either! =) Unless I think of something later. We were going to tear up the parkway and put hostas and other shade friends there but we may put that off another year.

If I think of anything to split I'll post here.

Can I contribute anything else for some tomato plants? Wine? snacks? I'll buy some soil. Let me know!

Mone - do you happen to have any extra of the little daffodils, by chance? The kind that only grow like 6"? Not a big deal if you do not. I'll likely buy those this year.

Hi All,
So happy and looking forward to seeing you all again. Don't worry. Just bring whatever you have and take whatever you want.
Here is a new announcement we just created:
Thumb of 2018-04-19/pitimpinai/c3534a
RolRod, you are in luck. I just dug up a clump of miniature Daffodils from a friend's garden. They are about 8 - 10" tall, though, about half the size of regular daffodils. If you would still like it, I will drop it off by your gate. Would you like a few blue Scilla to go with the yellow daffs? They are adorable together.

I am also planning to order more Narcissus Tete-a-tete this fall. I gave away too many of mine and want more now.

Did someone bring a white anemone last year? I received this white flower plant that was so beautiful but it didn't make it as I got a very small piece. If anyone has some they could share I would appreciate it. Also if anyone has chocolate mint, I would appreciate that too. I have sunflower seeds autumn beauty if anyone is interested. I can start some too if anyone want. I also received some seeds of glass gem corn if anyone would like some. Thank you.

I am already looking forward to it! Yay! Everything did so well. My friend who needed the hostas for his bare dirt yard was so grateful.

This year I am inviting my pottery class teacher. I've taken pottery classes for fun at a studio in Arlington Heights for about 6 years now. He and his wife just bought a house last fall and now have a garden to fill (and enjoy). Plus, they have a new baby.

If anyone got something in particular from me in prior years and wants more, let me know.

I can't wait! First of all a big thank you for the plants last year. Hurray! I really, really appreciate it! I don't think I have anything to contribute this year because my garden is still so young. But I will be thinking about it and update if I come up with something. I will be bringing snacks and sparkling water!

Here's my wishlist:

-lungwort/pulmonaria
-hosta
-golden or yellow raspberry varieties
-blueberries
-strawberries
-ferns
-lamb's ear
-Shasta daisy
-balloon flower

There's definitely a lot more stuff I'm interested in, and still have a good amount of space to fill up!

I'm so glad I found about this! We bought a house last fall and have a ton of plants that need to be rehomed because they're not happy.

For outside plants, I will be bringing some hostas and day lilies (if they start growing). I might have some extra basil seedlings too.

Indoors I have tons of African violet babies and maybe a few others. I have a few that were mislabeled, and not to my taste.

I'm interested in any plants for shade, as well as spring bulbs (only one daffodil coming up!)

Edit:
I've removed my spoken for plants. If you want something, please send me a direct message as I don't check the forum super often.

Pitimpanai - I'm interested in the bishop's hat!

alaynagt - I'd love the hydrangea and hosta. Do you have any information about what type of hydrangea?

Last year I got A LOT from this plant swap so if someone else comes along and wants these things, you can opt to give it to them, I'm just registering my interest!

EvanstonNewb - I'm not sure of the variety; they are the more old fashioned pink and blue. My soil is right on the edge pH wise, so the bushes have several flower colors, lol.

I am totally excited for the plant swap again this year. This is my favorite event to go to.
I removed a bunch of shrubs that was occupying space in the front yard. Now I am stuck with a lot of empty space to fill up.

AlaynaGT
I would love some hydrangea, African violet and amaryllis. Thanks a lot.

Pitimpinai
I would love some white Bleeding Heart, Thanks a ton. I have been looking for any color bleeding hearts.
