I was using the word 'tropical' for my search parameter and a number of the listed enterprises seem to no longer be working. I know this was the case for the Green Pages a year or two before and there was a concerted effort by members to identify and have those non-working sites taken off the Green Pages, but I've forgotten what the process was. @Dave ??

Sometimes the links just need to be updated.

The following link says the domain is for sale:
http://www.pctgardens.com/

This one says the site can't be reached:
http://www.bayoubloomstropical...

This one says the site has been disabled:
http://lorescotropicalplants.h...

I thought sites that need to be updated were still there - only with old info that is not current. I wasn't referring to those sites. I didn't check for how up-to-date they were, so the sites I'm describing fell into the above categories. Am I wrong about updated sites? Does the old info go away somewhere? I honestly don't know. Are the responses above all things that can be a site that just needs to be updated?

Donald, I hope I am understanding your questions, sometimes my brain just isn't on the same wave lenglth. *Blush*

I think if you find a link with issues like you posted above you could alert Dave, or post them in a new thread in the Site Forum so they can be deleted from the Green Pages.

If it is a site that just needs links repaired it can be done at the bottom of the entry using the 'Edit this entry's details'. Here you can edit the web address and any other information that needs changing.

Sometimes places go out of business or possibly no longer do on-line sales; links in our Green Pages for those places should probably be deleted but if there are recommendations, maybe those could remain?

Did y'all try any of the links I posted? Those were taken directly off my search in the Green Pages using 'tropical' for the search. The edit portion which would address what I'm seeing - or anything else, really - isn't shown. What would I edit? I don't see any place that would be pertinent. I guess I'm being dense, here. These links and others just appear to be defunct websites to me. Maybe the phone numbers provided would do it, but that would be the only means to contact them and it's not provided on all the links that didn't work. Sorry.

You could try using a search engine (Google or something else) to look up the names of the nurseries and see whether they have new web addresses, in which case you'd edit the address and perhaps the telephone number. This probably would also let you know whether the nurseries have gone out of business, in which case the entry can be deleted. If the nursery was reviewed by any of our members before it went out of business, you could delete the contact links and add a note saying that the company has gone out of business.

Donald I made a change to your one link. I only checked out the web address, not the email or phone number.

pctgardens.com must no longer be in operation and the link must have already been deleted from the Green Pages ... at least I couldn't find anything by that name and I couldn't find any company by that name when doing a google search either.

webpage apparently doesn't exist anymore but they do have a Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/bayou... at least I'm assuming it's the same place, with the location of Deridder, Louisiana.

webpage apparently doesn't exist anymore either. Their location is Puerto Rico so perhaps they were impacted by Hurricane Irma last fall?

Donald said he searched for "tropical," so pctgardens.com must be one of these:

Ok, I see it in the Green pages now, listed as Pacific Tropical Gardens: but I could not find a company by that name when doing a google search. If you click on the "Contact Them" link at the green pages ... nothing.

What is the solution here? Could anyone see a way to edit the sites? I think they are no longer in operation, no matter their past history. Dead sites in the Green Pages make them less useful, IMO. I don't tend to call via phone in any case, and usually the site itself provides the email contact. When the site is not operable, that option is gone.

Many businesses have now moved to having their only online presence on Facebook. But usually they keep a phone number or something.

Personally, I'm not so inclined to logon to Facebook to do busines. But that's my own prejudice.

You have to open the company's page in the Green Pages. Then on the bottom is the link to edit the company's details.

@Dave
What am I missing? The following is a copy/paste from The Green Pages. I have tried to open the webpage. What do you get when you try it? I see the edit feature at the bottom, but if I were to use it what would I say? If you use the link given, what do you get? I think I'll just make this my last post on this subject Shrug! .

The copy/paste follows:

The Green Pages: Pacific Tropical Gardens, LLC (E-Commerce Companies)

Search Green Pages
Main Details
Website: http://www.pctgardens.com/
E-Mail: Contact them
Phone: NA
Actions
Do you want to recommend Pacific Tropical Gardens, LLC? You have two options:
1) " Endorse Pacific Tropical Gardens, LLC by writing a review

2) " Endorse Pacific Tropical Gardens, LLC without writing a review

" Edit this entry's details

" Work here? Claim this business

" Return to The Green Pages front page

If the company doesn't exist anymore, there's nothing to edit. The entire entry should be deleted. I assume Dave or his mods or admin need to do that.

Edit it to what? Say the link doesn't work anymore? That the site is no longer extant? That the domain is up for someone else to use? What's the purpose of having it in The Green Pages if any one or all are the case? I obviously am having a failure to communicate on this thread. It seems to me that no one is trying the links I provided off The Green Pages. What's the use of having a search link on the pages if they don't take you anywhere? Using 'tropical' as the search criteria brought up a high number of inoperable links. That just makes The Green Pages frustrating to use. It looks promising when you see the list, but when there are that many links that take you nowhere it becomes a time taker and is not an improvement over search engines. That's really too bad because it could be one of the nicest features of NGA. But not if it doesn't work well.

Sorry. I'm really not trying to be difficult or peevish here. In the future, I'll try to avoid such an issue on NGA.

Two of the three dubious entries you mentioned have been deleted. The third had reviews and is apparently still available on Facebook, so the Web link was edited.
