A place for members to share photos of their gardens and seasonal blooms, fruit, foliage, veggies, etc. Green Grin! !

What's blooming, growing, or just looking lovely in your Southeastern garden?

I'm enjoying the "Grandstand" series of Salvia splendens...

and the, always adorable, "Shrimp Plant" (Justicia brandegeeana).

Technically, it's a perennial but it isn't always hardy here. In milder winters, it's root hardy. It's pretty easy to keep a potted plant semi-dormant in the garage, though.

Justicia fulvicoma is supposed to be a zone hardier.

Hummingbirds love them both. Green Grin!

Tiffany, is the Talinum a thug for you? They are hard to keep in check around here, I even dumped a pot that had some volunteer Talinum seedlings in it along the edge of the marsh. It was flooded with salt water for days during the hurricane last fall and they are up and running again this year.

Debbie, how did you make out with the floods in Orangeburg last week?

@,purpleinopp,
Tiffany, let me know if you would like some Amaryllis seeds, I have plenty again this year. It takes me three to four years I am finding to get one from seed to bloom stage. I don't know what is the best time to dig them but I have had good luck with them at most any time after they bloom, and even when they were blooming. If you come to Enterprise for anything stop by, I feel sure we could round up some daylilies also if you have room for any.
I should have amaryllis bulbs also that would probably look like this when they bloom.

Alice, things on the west side of town did not get too bad, as we are at a higher elevation. But the area closer to the North Edisto River frequently floods, and that includes the Edisto Memorial (Rose) Gardens. But, all in all, it was not too bad. And certainly nothing like the flooding we had in 2016. The ground is saturated, and with the continual rains, I'm seeing some root rot on certain plants, alliums especially. Thumbs down How are things in your neck of the woods?

Talinum is a thug for me. I love the dainty little blooms and the succulent leaves, though. Fortunately, it's fairly easy to yank up where it grows where it's not wanted.

Nice looking amyaryllis, Larry.

I need to remember to post some photos to this forum. Whistling

Alice, after the drought the past 2 summers, all of the ones I was trying to cultivate were dead. I was happy to see this volunteer in a pot. I suppose it could seed around, but compared to the other things I pull by the thousands, a few volunteers hardly seem thuggish. As a native, it's welcome to do what it can unless/until individuals are in my way for something else. As Deborah said, it's not hard to remove or move elsewhere.

Larry, thanks for thinking about me & for the kind offer! Much appreciated! It's not that far but I probably get to Enterprise about as often as you get to Opp. LOL! I would love to meet you & see your gardens. I'll try to get over there soon.

Deborah, yes you do!! Pretty please? LOL!

I have very heavy marshy soil and it is impossible to pull seedlings of some plants and I find the Talinum has such a deep root. If I don't get them when they are tiny, -3", I am in trouble.

Happy plants. Thumbs up

Sighing! I would love to be able to grow fuchsia like that. It it just too hot and muggy here and it promptly melts.

Daylilies and Hydrangea are the main things in the garden now, I did notice some hosta with blooms also.
