The LIlacs are now bloomed out, most anyway and a full bloom lasted approx. one week.
Now this was a good year for Lilac blooms as all the bushes I have and saw looked great but even though I grew up with them I have never paid attention to how long a normal bloom lasts.
Is one week like we had this year normal or do they last a bit longer in more normal cool May weather rather than the hot dung we had this year?

My cherry trees also look/ed real good this year and I had better get a anti-bird netting.

I have noticed that some of the lilacs seem to be especially full and lush this year. And a week of blooming does sound pretty normal.

My one tree peony bloomed two weeks ago, and despite no winter protection looked great.
The other one, looks healthy after I ripped out the part that was going back to herbaceous but did not bloom.
As the tree part seemed to be dying before, we will see next year how well it is doing.

My other peonies are just starting to bloom one or two but as a whole look much better than they did last year.
I have to raise up and weed, make the bare spot I try to keep them in larger, some this fall while at the same time some that were absent for decades are showing up; Dad said the yard was absolutely full of them when grandpa bought it seventy years ago. They eliminated, or thought they did, one half of them, but now they are popping up where I never saw them before to the point they are becoming a weed.

Wow, Caroline, you have peonies blooming already? I don't think mine are even close. Unless the blooms are going to be small this year. I noticed the leaves are narrower than usual this year and wondered it something is wrong.

It is a weird growing year. That one is in the shade , but near the house, so it is warmer. Usually that one is later.
There are good buds on several here. But I think that I may have lost some plants as they are not poking up.

Old peonies in older lots are hard to find these days.
I have a neighbour who has some which are 50 years old.
I keep meaning to ask for some seeds of the older cultivars.

Peonies as your weed ! ?
I think that would be wonderful. Some of those old cultivars are
now almost extinct !

Took some pictures this morning before the lightning storms roll in.

This peony was here in 91 when I moved into the city. I give it plenty of dirty aquarium water in the spring.

@j52 Your yard is beautiful, and shows that it gets good care.
I agree that watering the peony does make a big difference.

First bloom ever on my Queen of the Prairie! Bought last year. Still in a pot. Still haven't decided where to plant it.

Just got back from three days in Calgary (at my son's wedding) and my peonies are blooming! Will take pictures tomorrow or Tuesday.

I was looking for the Queen of the Prairie a few weeks ago for a customer of mine, couldn't find it. I also want another for myself, I had to let the one I had go to make room for my holiday trailer about 15yrs ago.
